If this is your first time to my blog, WELCOME! My name is Melissa and I am a mommy, army wife, quilter and I blog about it all.  Please take a moment to check out my tutorials page – I spent most of the last 4 months working on 18 blocks for a sampler quilt and all the tutorials are posted.  I am mostly a quilter, although I do occasionally do sewing projects as well. When I’m not sewing for family and friends I do a lot of sewing for charity, I like to give back whenever I can! Today I have some special prizes in store for you!

I have three sewing patterns that will go to three separate winners and one fabric prize for the big winner:

For the beginning sewist – I have an apron pattern that is made with fat quarters – so bust out your fat quarter stash (I know you have one of those – I sure as heck do!) and get sewing!

Are you starting to get comfortable with paper piecing? Do you have a favorite little girl in your life whose room needs some sprucing up? How about a paper pieced heart wall hanging?!? With some modern fabrics and colors this could be so stinking cute!

Have you been wanting to learn the Quilt As You Go technique? It has been all over the web, and I even have a tutorial coming your way on this very blog in the new year, but if you want to get a head start, how about a very simple pattern?  Again, change out the fabrics and this could be the sweetest baby quilt every!

And for my grand prize winner…I have a 1 lb bag of high quality quilting scraps. Including some Flora, Ruby and all of the Delighted that I have left after making my Delightfully Simple Reversible Purse (and I had a lot of extra fabric!!!) – the sky is the limit with this fun bag of fabric!

First Entry: Tell me the first project you plan on making in the new year – for example: I plan on making my niece a quilt.

    I plan to finish the 3 quilts that I have started it is my New Years resolution. I JUST started Jeweled Wedding Rings, I have two Hexagon quilts one in the quilting process and one in the piecing process.. we shall see. I think I will machine quilt the one hexagon quilt for sure. I started hand quilting the other, but I am debating moving it to the machine.. my hands just can’t take it.

    Love the fabric and the brick quilt! The first project I’ll make in the new year will probably be a jungle animal Pretendly (stuffed animal from felted wool) that I’ve promised to a friend of mine.

    I have signed up for a quilting class at my favorite fabric shop! I plan to finish all the classes! Plus I want to make a quilt for my newest grandson that will be born in March!

    Wow. Great giveaway and the scraps would be a very nice bonus.
    Next year I will be making baby stuff – burp clothes, bibs, receiving blankets and hopefully a quilt as well. We have another Grandchild arriving in Feb so I need to get things made for her.

    I am super excited, because I have never actually made a quilt, but my church is starting a quilting ministry of some sort right after Christmas and I’m going to learn how to do it – from folks who know! Yay!!! And some accountability so the quilt doesn’t end up in the perpetual UFO pile! 🙂

I, myself, like the idea that you are using only high quality scraps. That’s nice to know because I would only use that kind for my personal quilt for me for next year.     I have bene caught off guard way too many times with birthdays and not having a gift at hand, so my first project in 2012 will be to sew up some simple pouches and other ’emergency’ gifts so that I have a stash available. Then I want to try this quilting thing – maybe start with a small quilted pillowcase or something.

    The first thing I plan to make in the new year is a fabric postcard for a New Year’s Swap that will be due the first week of January. I’m also currently working on 40 fabric postcards for birthdays next year and if I don’t finish by the end of December then for sure I’ll finish them the first week of January.

    I have a quilt that I need to complete in the new year….the top is almost done but has had to wait due to Christmas sewing. Maybe your fabric will find its way into the quilt.

    I’d like to start on my handmade gifts for 2012 in January so I’m not finishing everything up last minute like I will be this year. The only problem is I have no idea what I want to make for next year’s gifts. If I haven’t come up with anything yet by January I’ll likely finish up the sofa cushion covers that have been in my pile for 2 years.
