It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

I finished piecing the quilt top! Now the big question is do I put borders on it?  It is already almost 60″ x 79″ so I don’t need the size – it is HUGE for a cuddle quilt.  What do you all think?

Vintage Christmas Quilt TopAnd in case you were wondering what made me decide to switch my layout in the first place. I was playing around with Ole Frog Eyes and wanted to test out their On Point quilt. Check out my mock up here. I have to say how much I love this tool because it really gives me a chance to see my quilt before I go through the process of laying it all out on my floor.  (This is not a sponsored post, just telling you about a product I love is all.)

  1. I am thinking like Debbe, just a small border to frame it all would be enough. Looks really nice!

  2. I think this layout and effect is perfection!! I agree with the other two. Maybe a very thin border if the sashing holly print! Gorgeous! 🙂

  3. I also think a thin (2.5″ unfinished) border of the green would be good – just to give a little breathing room between the red holly sashing & whichever binding you choose.

  4. I feel like a salmon swimming upstream, since I am going to go against the tide of opinion, here! LOL I think it looks super with no border at all!
Thanks for the shout out for Ole Frog Eyes!

  5. I think it looks great as is…no border, just the binding…and if you decide to do a border, make it very narrow and small, like the sashing you already have…keep it simple. It’s just lovely…makes me want to bring out all my Christmas fabrics….I have a whole large drawer of just Christmas! I have my youngest granddaughter’s Christmas stocking to make too! It’s all planned out, just need to jump in and make it!

  6. Border. Definitely. Will frame it and keep the binding from “running into” the delicate sashing.

  7. Haha, I think it’d look great with a border. Even a big one picking up some of the red and white and bright green from the blocks. It is a traditional sampler piece even with its clean lines so it could totally rock a giant border and look amazing-sauce. So I guess were

  8. If I had realized you were using such a narrow sashing I would have suggested using the QAYG method and now it would be practically all quilted . It’s a great process be
cause you can turn those blocks ’round and ’round and ’round to quilt them any way you want and do all that fancy stuff so easily. Would have been great
    FM practice.
I still vote no border. Maybe a white or a bright red binding.

  9. I have no idea about a border, I just have to post because I need to say ” I love this” and “I want one” are these the blocks in your tutorials here on your blog?
