Happy Boxing Day Everyone!
This past weekend I had the chance to take my mom and Anne to one of my favorite fabric stores…The Intrepid Thread! I brought 2 quilt tops with me and a small collection of blocks for a 3rd top and did a little pre-gaming for our Lovely Year of Finishes that I am co-hosting with Shanna from Fiber of All Sorts.
I purchased backing material for all 3 quilts and thought I would share them with you!
These are the blocks that the wonderful ladies from the Trust Circle of Do. Good Stitches made in November and I have the happy job of sewing them into a quilt. I bought some gorgeous Kharma Baby for the backing.
This is the Purple Bee Block quilt for my mom. I bought some Pearl Bracelets by Lizzy House for the backing, my mom is in love.
This is my grandma’s Chemo Quilt. She passed before it could be made. I have been making it in her honor. I bought some of my favorite Impressions by Ty Pennington.
Julie and Mallory were wonderful in helping me pick out fabrics, I couldn’t be more grateful for the help. If you are in the Bay Area, I highly recommend heading over to The Intrepid Thread, I guarantee you won’t walk away empty handed!

Hi Melissa!! You are so inspiring! I love the idea (year of finishes). I definitely have my January/February decided. I will sort things out when I get home from travels and see how much I have to finish. A year’s worth seems a bit agressive for me since I only completed 4 projects this year…….
Beautiful fabrics! I wish that I could go to Julie’s store! Cannot wait to see them all done! There are some lucky recipients at the end of that journey! 🙂

I almost think picking out backing fabric is my favorite part of the process. Sometimes I start with a backing! I, too, have purchased Kharma Baby from Julie. Made a baby quilt out of the line. So precious. Thanks for sharing.

Love your quilts and the backing you chose! Bay Area…San Francisco??? Those of us who live more than 100 miles from the coast may (probably) not know what “Bay Area” means! And since their website doesn’t indicate a brick and mortar store, how would we find it??

Ugh, no. LOL. I haven’t thought one bit about it, because I have to get some blocks together before I have a top to finish. =) Love your choices, though! And I did make another string block today while I was piecing some other things. =)

The thought process for the coming year is in high gear. Just need to finish cleaning/re-organizing my sewing room first. I decided the best way to start off the new year was to first get organized.
I know that I have WAY more than 12 projects to finish up – but for now, the challenge is to find them back in my sewing room….. Christmas guests were coming, and the fastest way to deal with my pile of WIPs was to grab it and dump it on my cutting table, and the sewing table… – and hubby did the same thing, only he dumped WHATEVER he’d gathered….. Guess what I’m doing between now and Jan. 1st?
