2012

Snow Day!

We are in the midst of a winter storm in Western Washington. On the news the other night someone called this little weather system “Snowmageddon” and let’s just say that has stuck in our household!  My hubs had yesterday off work because it was deemed too dangerous for him to drive in.  Anne and I loved having him home. I may have taken a little advantage of it – seeing as I took a 2 hour nap in the middle of the day (a major treat for me!).

I decided to put my 24.5″ x 6.5″ ruler to good use and measure the snow fall – yup that is 14 inches deep in my front yard peeps! We live at 500 feet and got that much snow!

Anne kept begging to be thrown in the snow – and who were we to deny her some fun! She loved it – but we called it quits when the sun went down 🙂

Daddy made a snow angel and Anne just had to investigate it when he was done – she loves “tnow” – as she calls it!

In non-snow news – my Twitter friend – HQSuz – just celebrated the one-year anniversary of her podcast yesterday and she spoke of me, Jenna – SewHappyGeek, Shana – h2ogirl76, and Bonnie – Beeclef. These ladies and several more on Twitter have come to be such an awesome support group for me and I am so blessed to have them. Check out Susan’s blog – The History Quilter. Her podcasts are fun and informative and her blog is awesome too!

Have a dry day – I hope we do!

Twirl Inspiration

My first project this year was playing with Twirl. I have never made anything with a layer cake before and I wanted to make sure that I got the most use out the fabric available and that what I ended up with was a large usable quilt. Here’s what I designed and made:

Did I mention it snowed this weekend! I can’t tell you how tickled Anne was to play outside in it 🙂

The top measures 64×72 inches and I have decided to go borderless. This will be a first for me, but I just don’t think the quilt needs it. I am waiting on Twirl yardage to become available (supposed to be this week) and I will buy a backing and the binding – I’m hoping this will be my first BIG finish of 2012.

Have you entered the giveaway yet for the Twirl Layer Cake? What will you make if you win?

Twirl Giveaway

Did you like to Twirl when you were younger? Spin in a circle until you couldn’t spin anymore and you just crashed to the ground in a heap. Or maybe…just maybe you were a chair twirler, and you spun in an office chair until you just slumped out of it. Anne is a little of both! She loves to spin in circles and even cries “Wee” or “Spin Circles” when she does it! I love watching her!

I think Barb and Mary from Me & My Sister Designs must have been twirler’s too! After all they designed the most gorgeous line – Twirl! I fell in love with this design the second I saw it and I immediately asked if I could host a giveaway for my wonderful readers on my blog. Barb and Mary oh so graciously sent two, count em TWO, layer cakes over. One for me and one for YOU!

Oh wait, that’s not all…they decided to sweeten the deal by hosting a giveaway this week on their blog in conjunction with my giveaway! Two chances to win a wonderful prize from two amazing designers.

Twirl Layer Cake

Playing Around

I spent yesterday during nap time playing around with a new tool I got from Fat Quarter Shop and something new and fun was born.  Here is a scrappy peak of what I made:

I have decided to hand quilt the project – it will be my first attempt at hand quilting – I will start tonight during Project Runway (guilty pleasure).  Jenna from SewHappyGeek was kind enough to help me on Twitter yesterday, she sent me a couple of tutorials and also told me what supplies I was going to need.

I picked up some perle cotton number 8 in a beautiful red, some needles and a frame. I figured I needed to try hand quilting with and without a frame of some sort to see what worked for me so I picked up a cheapy little plastic frame. We shall see!

While Anne and I were out shopping I decided to pick up some more art projects for her – so we decided to make Valentine’s for our family and friends. I am sure her Grandparents will love them when we send them off at the beginning of next month – what do you think of them?

Today is my Friday, my hubs has Friday and Monday off and I want to spend some quality time with him and Anne – so I will be back on Tuesday!  I hope you all have a great weekend, take a moment and reflect on the holiday we celebrate – Martin Luther King Jr.

How will you be spending the weekend? Is it a long one for you too?

UPDATE! I just remembered I will be here on Monday…I have a very special fun giveaway for you! Make sure you come by and check it out!
