Pumpkin Hunting

Happy Hump Day Everyone!  Yesterday Anne and I had such a fun day.  It was sunny out and according to the forecast it wasn’t supposed to rain (it had been raining straight since Friday). Well, silly me, I believed the forecast. That will teach me! I told Anne that after kindergym (organized chaos for 2-4 year olds) we would head up to the pumpkin patch, then I decided that before we went to the pumpkin patch we needed to pick up rain boots, after all we were heading to the pumpkin patch after 4 days straight of rain.  Turns out that was my smartest move yet!

We got to Hunter’s Pumpkin Patch and the sun was shining brightly and it was so warm we left our raincoats in the car (are you seeing a problem…because I didn’t).  We started out in the Hay Maze (smaller than the corn maze which guaranteed me that I wouldn’t have to carry a tired toddler back out).

Then we found a HUGE slide!

Then all of a sudden the huge pumpkins became rather interesting…

We took the tractor pulled wagon on out to the pumpkin patch, Anne loved the ride.

Now what you aren’t seeing is any pictures of us picking pumpkins because as soon as we got into the actual pumpkin patch, the skies opened up and dumped buckets and buckets of rain on us. It was the fastest pumpkin picking session ever!!!  By the time we got back we were fairly well soaked.

Do you like our new boots?!?  Considering we didn’t have our raincoats I was mighty happy to have our rain boots!

October do.Good Stitches Blocks

As I’m sure you all probably know after a year of me posting…I’m part of the Trust Circle of do.Good Stitches. This month we are doing a girl quilt. We were requested to make Wonky Stars following the tutorial from The Silly BooDilly.  Pink background with white stars. Here are the blocks I created.

Next month I am the quilter for my Circle and I need to figure out what I am doing. I think I would like to do a boy quilt because, well let’s face it, I make an awful lot of girl stuff!

Weekend Projects

This weekend I was going to pull fabrics for possible borders for my Vintage Christmas Sampler quilt, there’s only one problem with that…I’m out of fabric!  So the decision to go borderless was made for me!

While I was pulling fabrics, Anne decided to do the same thing. She spotted some Halloween fabric in my cabinet and went on the attack!  Everything was in a huge ziplock bag and she got out an entire WIP progress quilt and I’m sure from the expression on her face you can guess what she wants me to do…

FINISH IT!!!

This is a kit that my mom bought YEARS ago and I started making it last year but never finished it because that’s what we quilters seem to do!   So what do you think…do I give in to the whims of a 2 year old?  It might not be done in time for Halloween, but I do love to put a smile on her face!

Getting My Curve On

Have you all seen the Quick Curve Ruler by Jenny Pedigo of Sew Kind of Wonderful?  This ruler is amazing and the tutorials that Jenny has made to go with it are amazing. The ruler allows you to sew curved blocks and to sew them easily. I bought my Quick Curve Ruler back in March at the Sew Expo in Puyallup, WA, but I have to say the idea of sewing curves continued to intimidate the hell out of me. I finally decided to give it a shot in August and I started with a Jenny’s Urban 9 Patch block. I liked my results so much that I decided to make the same block for my 3×6 Bee Hive.

I actually made one more of the teal and purple blocks – I traded blocks with a couple of extra friends who really loved the block.

I won’t be participating in the 4th quarter of 3×6 this year, hopefully just taking this one quarter off so I can work on Christmas sewing and what not.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

I finished piecing the quilt top! Now the big question is do I put borders on it?  It is already almost 60″ x 79″ so I don’t need the size – it is HUGE for a cuddle quilt.  What do you all think?

Vintage Christmas Quilt TopAnd in case you were wondering what made me decide to switch my layout in the first place. I was playing around with Ole Frog Eyes and wanted to test out their On Point quilt. Check out my mock up here. I have to say how much I love this tool because it really gives me a chance to see my quilt before I go through the process of laying it all out on my floor.  (This is not a sponsored post, just telling you about a product I love is all.)
