When I first started this blog I did a lot of reviews of tools and I thought it was time to start bringing some of my favorite tools back onto my blog, after all the tools make quilting so much easier and so much more fun!
To start with I wanted to share the Add-A-Quarter Ruler by CM Designs.
I originally bought this ruler for paper piecing, it is fast and easy to trim the leftover edges down to a beautiful and perfect 1/4″ seam, but when I started to do hand quilting I realized it was also the perfect ruler for drawing 1/4″ lines for my hand quilting.
I just had to line the lip of the ruler up to my fabric and I had a perfect 1/4″ every time, pair that with a Clover Water Soluble Pencils and it makes hand quilting easy!
Each of my hexagon rows are sewn exactly the same with the exact same measurements. A little water and the white lines just disappear.
So there you have it, two of my favorite notions for quilting.
What are some of your favorite notions?
Such a beautiful project…love love love the hand quilting!
Great idea for that ruler. Love how your quilting is going. I really love the frixion pens. The lines go away with steam pressing. They *will* come back, lighter, in extreme cold. I checked it by putting a block in the freezer. Since I don’t typically keep my quilts in the freezer, I’m not worried. =) You can also get the lines out by rubbing with the gray end of the pen.
My fav is masking tape. I take the rottary cutter as a must have 🙂
Love your bright little hexies, and your hand quilting is very nice too! My favorite notions, would have to be my rulers,I would be lost without them, and my rotary cutter.
Good tip! I love my glue stick, my frixion pens and my wee sharp, pointed scissors
i just bought me some aqtr in rulers, but i a scissor nut
What a great idea for this ruler, and I have one of these! I’m going to keep this in mind. I love those little red Clover clips myself.
Great post, Melissa. Both are so valuable. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. XXXXXX
One of my favorite notions is a toothpick that I use for applique. It makes turning edges so easy.
What a great idea! I never thought of that – duh!!!
Beautiful!! I love your hexies! 😀
