New Life

Have you ever had one of those projects that you started for no reason and then fell out of love with it and stashed it into a drawer?  I have lots of them, I can admit it.  Today’s project got stashed in a drawer for lots of reasons, but it is coming back to life.  Someone in my life is pregnant and having a baby girl and I thought this would be an adorable quilt for them. I designed it back in 2012 and I am changing the design slightly, more on that in a future post once I have made a few more blocks.

Spinner Quilt - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.comSo here is a sewing confession for you, I love batiks! My great grandparents are from French Polynesia and I swear it is just in my blood. So here is my pink, yellow and purple spinner baby quilt.  At least the start of it. The blocks are only 8.5″ by 8.5″ so I have quite a few more to make before it is a decent sized baby quilt.

Have a Happy Wednesday!

  1. It’s adorable! Glad to here there are other people with stashed projects. I think that is what is holding me back right now. I have at least 6 quilt tops that need long-arming, and I don’t even want to count the stashed projects. I haven’t sewn in so long just because I don’t want to start a new project and picking up an old one can be so difficult when you aren’t in the groove. And did I mention that my sewing space needs a little tidying up? Sometimes I can work in the mess and then other times it’s hard when you can’t find what you need. Yet, I can tell that I need to be creative to balance out the stress…

  2. At least I am not the only one. I have like 5 projects stashed away that I really want to revisit and finally finish. It would be so rewarding.

  3. I love batiks, too, although I’ve not worked much with them. I have quite a collection built up, however! And I was just looking at more on sale at Hancock’s of Paducah! This is going to make a sweet baby quilt. Can’t wait to see a picture of it when it’s finished. Don’t forget it’s for a baby, so it isn’t going to need to be too much bigger!!

  4. Oh, I love it. So will the new mom! If you created that spinner block, I hope that means you’ll be making a pattern from it. I like it very much; it looks like it would be sort of fast piecing. Another weakness we share – batiks. Not that I consider it a weakness. LOL
