Blogger’s Quilt Festival – Fall 2014

https://www.amyscreativeside.com/

It is that lovely time of year again when the Blogger’s Quilt Festival gets into full swing and we get to see so many incredible creations from across the blogosphere. A quick thank you to Amy from Amy’s Creative Side for hosting this fun event!  Make sure you visit the festival so you can see all the gorgeous creations!

I decided to enter the small quilt category with my Flowering Lone Star quilt. Those of you who have been with me for awhile are already familiar with this quilt, so I apologize for repeating myself. For those who are new, you should know that I have been on a Lone Star Kick this year.  I’ve made 3 different lone star quilts and one block tutorial.  Some ideas just get stuck in your head.

Flowering Lone Star - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.com I decided to do circular spiral quilting on this one just to add some movement. It reminds me of a very still pool of water and someone threw a stone into it.

Quilting Flowering Lone Star 2 - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.comThis quilt is reversible, I had lots of extra diamond pieces so I created a pieced backing, which later became the 2nd quilt. Gotta love reversible quilts. I call the backing Bursting Lone Stars. These stars are also known as Le Moyne stars – in my research I discovered that there are about 12 different names for this one block alone!

Bursting Lone Stars - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.comI didn’t intend for this quilt to be a Christmas quilt, but the colors just kind of lend itself to Christmas so this beauty will be gracing the couches of my living room throughout the month of December.

Quilt Stats:
Front Name – Flowering Lone Star
Back Name – Bursting Lone Stars
Measures – 51″ x 51″
Quilting Thread – Aurifil
Pattern Design – Melissa Dunworth (Me)
Fabric – Modern Poppy and Kona Steel

I hope you enjoy the festival and thank you so much for stopping by and visiting!

  1. I’m glad you showed it one more time. I keep meaning to check the pattern to be sure I have enough lights, but seeing yours, I know I do. Plus I was going for a shading with my colors, and you alternated, so I’m going to try that and see if I like it better. You know I love this one! I could see it every day and still love it. =)

  2. I am glad you entered it. It doesn’t make me think of Christmas either. Reminds me I need to get mine quilted! Thanks for allowing me to test the pattern.

  3. I was wondering if you quilted it yourself on a small machine. I mentioned that I wanted to have that pattern quilted on a quilt and the ladies at our group said that doing that on a long arm would be difficult. Just wondering…

  4. It’s still gorgeous!
Yay for the reminder to run to Craftsy to buy the Flowering and Bursting Lone Star Combo pattern. 🙂
