Hello! My name is Melissa and I have been sewing for over 25 years and quilting for 20 years. I am a mom to my wonderful daughter Anne (her name has been changed to protect her anonymity), wife to my incredible hubby, and a middle school teacher. A bit about my art background, I have a minor in Studio Art from Santa Clara University and I am also a published photographer. I like to use my art background in all of my quilting and my Bachelor of History in my study of quilting and sewing, integrating historical quilting elements into my contemporary quilt patterns. In December of 2018 I completed my Master’s in Teaching degree and I currently teach Sewing and Quilting, English Language Arts, Marketing, and Enrichment at the middle school level.
It has been a dream since I bought my first sewing machine to design my own quilts and try and get them published. My dreams are finally coming true, in 2015 I was published for the first time in Make Modern Magazine and in 2016 I have been in Generation Q Magazine and again in Make Modern Magazine, in 2017 I appeared in Modern Quilts Unlimited twice – once on the cover. It is such an honor to be included in such wonderful publications. You can see all of my patterns that are available for purchase, please email me.
In 2016 another of my quilting/sewing dreams was brought to life when my husband convinced me to purchase an Innova Long Arm quilting machine on a 12 foot frame. I have now added Long Arm Quilter to my resume. My price list is available here and I would love nothing more than to help bring your quilt and vision to life! Let me know if you have any questions, I am reachable via the email address below.
My email address is melissa at sewbittersweetdesigns dot com.
I would like to be a follower via email if possible. Can you make this happen?

I just came to the about me page looking for a way to contact you via email and saw we could comment instead. And I see Janet has already asked what I was going to ask myself. I’d love a way to subscribe to your posts via email as well. Please? 🙂 Thank you.
Thanks for adding the email subscription for us. I really appreciate that.
Welcome to the Pacific Northwest Melissa. It has been my home for more years than I care to reveal. I’ve lived on both sides of the mountains, and if you get too water-logged, come east. We quilt on the east side too. I like the flying geese project. Chain piecing certainly does speed up the process of assembling many parts for a whole. I came upon your blog through Bellaonline–out of New Zealand and Australia. Keep stitching.
On Block 17 Of the Christmas Sampler – I’m not able to download the foundation pieces. Can you please email me that file. Thank you.
I was wondering what happened to you. I am so glad I found you and have subscribed to your blog by email.
I like you on facebook! awolk@rogers.com
I just found your blog today! I am excited to start linking up every month projects I hope to finish. I think we all can use encouragement! I also love sewing and quilting and everything in between 🙂 This week I am hosting a Throw Pillow Throw Down on my blog – if you want to check it out 🙂

Amanda

Do you have a quilt block pattern for a gingerbread man?
This probably isn’t the best place to leave this question, but there isn’t a comment place available on the Scrappy Trees tutorial. I am making this lovely block 9 times for a baby quilt and really enjoying it. I have all of the pieces finished except the Double Pine Tree. The provided PDF file doesn’t seem to match up to the photo tutorial and I feel like I am missing something. For example, in the photos you show a narrow template and additional 1″ wide sashing by the small tree, but the PDF has only a wider template. Also, the template for the trunk of the small tree appears to measure 1.5 x 1.5, but the picture indicates a different size. Thank you for your assistance. This will make a great forest quilt when I am finished.
I’m such a dork. I posted the wrong picture for the Sept goal and don’t know how to delete it. Help to delete #15 is appreciated.
Hi Melissa! I love the Fancy Flock quilt from 2011! Do you sell the pattern for this quilt? I am a beginner quilter, so also wondering how hard this quilt is to make!
I love your site!
Thank you so much!
