I’ve got something!

Yesterday I had nothing, my friend Beth, said that I had ‘nearly something’. I love that, because it was nearly something! Now though, I really have something!

Bella Nonna PurseI have a beautiful new bag!

Here is the inside:

Bella Nonna Purse

I have to say I am really tickled with how it turned out. There were a few (well, a lot) of oopses while I was making this, but at the end of the day I am really happy with how it turned out.

I bought this bag as a kit from Sassy Packs back in December and I knew I would make it eventually. Then Sara from Sew Sweetness invited me to do a pattern review as part of Purse Palooza. Needless to say that lit a fire under me, thus a bag is born!

I will be posting my review over on Sew Sweetness on June 29th.

In other news… have you seen the re-launch of the Superior Threads website?!? It is fabulous and big news – they are now carrying fabric in addition to their amazing threads.

I started working on Anne’s new project last night, so far I am loving it, I can’t wait to share it with you, hopefully next week. I just need to conquer yet another zipper.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Nothing

That’s what I have today, nothing.  Well…I guess that isn’t entirely true. I have lots of partially sewn pieces – they just aren’t sewn altogether into one thing yet.

Come back tomorrow – hopefully I will have it done!

It? You may be asking. My new handbag!

Retail Therapy

So yesterday was a rough one for me and Anne. Yet another cruddy medical diagnosis. Anne is now up to 5 different medications a day, and she just can’t seem to catch a break. Nothing life threatening just something I would rather her not deal with is all. So…to make up for the rough day Anne and I treated ourselves a bit. We started out with Starbucks on the way home from the hospital. She loves getting a scone and a Vanilla milk, yesterday though she got a cake pop – as I said bad day.  I got a Frappuccino and a cookie.

Now you would not believe what was in the next parking lot over?!? My absolute favorite local quilt shop, Ruby Street Quiltworks in Tumwater, WA. We drove over there and did some retail therapy!  I have been planning a little project for Anne since we were in California and went through some of my toys from the early 80s.  I want to remake something for her dolls that I had as a child (more on that later and hopefully a tutorial to go with it!). Check out the fabric she picked out:

She picked out Welcome to Bear Country by Moda. Go figure that she would pick the Berenstain Bear fabric…they are her favorite books and for a long time it was the only thing she would watch on TV.

When I was putting her fabric in my sewing room she picked up my magnifying glass – have I ever mentioned I’m blind as a bat?

I would like to introduce you to Inspector Gadget…Quilt Gadget that is!

What are you working on today?

Home Sweet Home

We are back in the Pacific Northwest and I have to agree with everyone else…there is just no place like home. I did come to realize that a  king size bed is EXTRA large when sleeping in it alone. I have done it a few times throughout the past year, really unavoidable when your spouse is in the military, but for months on end is a whole other story!

Anne was so excited to be home, she immediately ran to her downstairs toy box and yelled “look at all my new toys!” The best thing is that they are all the toys she has always had except she hasn’t seen them in 5 weeks! LOL

Yesterday I unpacked all the sewing stuff that I brought down to CA with and I started reading the pattern and laying out all of the fabric to make a new handbag. I am participating in Purse Palooza over at Sew Sweetness. I will be doing my pattern review on the very last day.  Make sure you go check it out, there are prizes to be won every single day and if you make a purse this month that is one more chance to win! I will start sewing it together today.

While I was gone I received lot’s of squishy packages!  May was my month for Sew Bee Blissful and the blocks have started to roll in. Here are the one’s I have received so far:

They are all Firefly blocks. My bee mates followed my tutorial from back in January. This is going to be a quilt for my hubs when he comes back from Afghanistan. What do you think? Manly enough so far?  I have a lot more fabric and will hopefully end up with a lot more blocks!

What have you been up to this past weekend?

Winner and a trip

Today Anne and I head back home to Washington. I am excited and nervous at the same time.  I am excited because it will be nice to be in my own bed, have my lovely home, and all of Anne’s toys to play with. Not to mention our wonderful neighbors to hand out with.  I am nervous because we will be very alone and that is never easy.  Luckily my in-laws are coming for a visit in a couple week and after that my bestie will be visiting from Idaho so we can take our kiddos to ride Thomas the Train in the middle of July. Fun times!

So we will be in the car for 13.5 hours today – I know, you’re jealous. 13.5  hours in a car with a toddler, I would be jealous too…NOT!  I will spend the next 13.5 hours doing my best to keep the meltdowns to a minimum – I think there will be lots of singing, coloring and possibly even angry birds in our future!

So now, let’s make sure at least one person has a great day!  The winner of the layer cake of Quilt Blocks from Fat Quarter Shop is….

Carin! Who said “I like the Gumdrop Pattern”

Carin, I will email you on Saturday, as I will be traveling all day today.

Have a wonderful Friday everyone and a relaxing weekend!
