Bee Blocks

Fresh off the frame!

I finished quilting my first quilt on Spike yesterday! I am super excited!

I am going to admit right now that I thought the backing was going to look terrible, mostly because it is navy and I used white thread, so I figured every bobble and misstep would show up. I have to say that I LOVE LOVE LOVE the back!

Yellow Gray and Aqua backing - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.comI love how it looks! This is an extra wide backing by Tula Pink. I got it at my local quilt shop, Ruby Street Quiltworks and I’m just so happy.

Here’s a look at the front.

Yellow Gray and Aqua Front - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.comSorry for how dark it is, the lighting wasn’t so great in my house yesterday.

Today I am going to trim two quilts, and regroup to figure out what’s next.

Have a fabulous weekend!

Week 19 Goals

I designed a new block on Saturday for my bee mates in the 4×5 Modern Bee on Flickr.

Stacked Pyramids - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.comMy goal is simple, make 6 more of these and also photograph my process to do a tutorial!  I love the way this block looks and bonus, my bee mates do too!

My weekend sewing was cut short because Anne ended up back in the hospital with hives everywhere. My husband is gone doing army things right now, so that was interesting, doing everything alone. Luckily I have another army wife friend who came and kept us company with her daughter. Having friends and family here really does help!

I hope everyone has a great Monday, make it a great day!

Wordless Wednesday – Caption It!

I love online quilting bees. I’ve been doing them for the last 3 years now.  I just found out on Instagram that the 4×5 Modern Quilt Bee over on Flickr just opened for Spring registration and my friend Ella from Throw a Wench in the Works is running the bee this quarter!

I’ve been collecting blocks for my Yellow, Aqua and Gray quilt for at least 1.5 years now. I am 12 blocks shy so I’m leaping in with Shanna from Fiber of All Sorts and joining the bee. I will get at least 6 blocks closer to my goal!

Yellow, Gray, Aqua Quilt - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.comI need a name for this quilt, help me name it with your caption below!

And because Anne wanted to help me lay out the blocks and just had to have her picture taken too…here’s some cuteness for your day!

Blogger’s Quilt Festival – Entry 1

AmysCreativeSide

I thought long and hard about which quilt I should enter for the Blogger’s Quilt Festival over at Amy’s Creative Side.  For my first entry I wanted to do my mom’s Purple Bee Quilt.

I am entering this quilt into the Group/Bee Category, make sure you head over and check out all the other amazing entries. You may remember this quilt as my August finish for A Lovely Year of Finishes.

Finshed Purple Quilt - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.comName: Purple Bee Quilt
For: My Mom!
Size: 75″ x 75″
Quilting: Straight line on angles, with a Wishbone FMQ in the border (done by me)

These blocks were collected over the course of 2012 from the 3×6 and 4×5 bees over on Flickr. 5 of the blocks were made by me and were my test blocks for what I made my bee mates.

I love this quilt because it is my mom. It fits her personality so well.  I hope you don’t mind seeing it again!

Do Good Stitches October Blocks

This month for Do Good Stitches we were asked to make Wonky Crosses, any way we wanted to make them. I decided to make mine in different sizes.  Each block is 12.5″ unfinished but the crosses themselves are each a bit different.  We were asked to use Kona School Bus (a orange/yellow color), Cerise (think bright magenta) and Plum. We didn’t have to a neutral but could use one if we wanted. I opted to Kona Ash to tone down the brightness.

I actually really enjoyed making these. Sometimes wonky projects and be rather liberating.  Make sure to check back tomorrow for the October Finishes party for A Lovely Year of Finishes!
