Bee Blocks

May Bee Blocks – Do. Good Stitches

I bet you thought I didn’t do any blocks for Do. Good Stitches this month, huh? I didn’t I am just late in posting them. This month I am the quilter and I asked my group to make space related blocks. Each person makes 2 blocks a month, so I asked that one block from each person be a star and to make sure we weren’t doubling on up on star blocks.  The second block could be anything space related. Here are the 2 blocks that I came up with:

This is the cute little alien guy that I designed. He is machine appliqued onto a Kona Black background. I asked Anne to name him and she said he should be “Sweet Alien”. I love 3 year olds!

This was my star block. I decided to do a Hexi Star block following a tutorial I wrote last November.

I am really looking forward to putting this quit together!

3×6 Sampler Hive Test Block

I don’t know what drove me to do it…but I signed up for the 3×6 bee again. On top of that I signed up for 2 different hives! LOL  I guess I just felt like I didn’t have enough going on.

When I do these bees I like to do a nice mix of my own original designs for blocks and then classic designs. For the Sampler Hive that I am in, I opted to design my own block. Here is the mock up:

And here is my test block.

I’m pretty happy with it, I like how it gives me the opportunity to show case 5 different prints and frames them beautifully.  I’m think of doing this up as a tutorial…would anyone be interested?  There will be 6 more of these made in the future.

April Bee Blocks

Happy Friday! Today I’m excited! My hubby has the day off, so he and an army buddy will be working on my garden 🙂 They are getting the soil for my raised planter beds! One step closer to planting!  I wanted to show off my Trust Circle, Do Good Stitches bee blocks from this month to you.

This month we are working on a quilt for a little girl, I believe she is 7. We were asked to think “Spring”. One of the suggested blocks was a hexie flower. I also did some thread painting of the stem and the sun. The butterfly is embroidered (I got the design from the Clover and Violet Embroidery 101 QAL, it is from Block 2). We were also asked not to use white fabric for our backgrounds, cheerful colors were requested. I just LOVE this blue.

For my second block I did a Circle of Geese (pattern found here). This was also a suggested block. I was thinking I might do a sun, but I think 2 of those had already been made by the time I started my blocks. I used some of my favorite fabrics for this block and I love how it turned out.

Next month I am the quilter and I am planning a boy quilt with a spacey theme. I was going to design a block for the other ladies to make but knowing the level of creativity in the group I have decided to give color and theme guidelines and ask them to put that creativity to work, I know they will come up with amazing designs!

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

November Bee Awesome Blocks

Before Anne and I went on holiday this month I put 700 miles on my car driving back and forth from her’s and my doctor appointments. It was A LOT of appointments and a bit stressful. Then we arrived to our vacation spot and as you know things didn’t really improve too much. I honestly didn’t know if I was going to be able to meet all my commitments, but I am happy to report that I got all my bee blocks done!

Bee Simple Blocks

Block 3

Block 2

Block 1I do have one more thing to make, but I will be turning that in “late”. It is a siggy block for my stripper row, but the lovely Shanna said it was ok if I sent that to her directly after I make it. This means that the Christmas sewing can commence!

Trust Circle – Do.Good Stitches

I am posting my bee blocks early this month for Do.Good Stitches. I know you are probably a bit surprised as I usually don’t post blocks until much later in the month. Well, this month is a bit different than any other month. This month I am the quilter for my circle. I asked my amazing sewing mates to make wonky log cabin blocks in Blues and greens with pops of Orange and White. Two of the wonderful ladies have already finished their blocks and it is only the 6th!!! I got my blocks done last night. Here they are:

This will be my fourth boy quilt and I have to say I am really excited about it. I do so much little girl stuff, something about having a little girl kind of makes that happen, which is why I wanted to make a boy quilt this time around.

What is everyone else up to?
