A Lovely Year of Finishes – January Finishes

alyof2015Is it just me or was January a bit horrendous?  I came home to a disaster in my house and have been grappling with it ever since. The good news is that amidst the chaos, I managed to be fairly productive. I pieced 4 quilt tops, quilted and bound 4 quits.  Here is the last one fresh off the machine.

Final Preschool Quilt - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.comI still have threads to bury on all four, but I am supremely happy with my finish. These quilts will be raffled off at Anne’s preschool to benefit their scholarship fund.

I have already sewn two more charity blocks for my circle of Do. Good Stitches and picked out fabric for my Patchwork City sampler quilt that I will be making with my guild. Look for more info on that later next week.

I’m still alive!

If there are rumors floating around that I’ve disappeared, I am happy to report that they are greatly exaggerated!

I’m alive and well. I’ve been sewing my heart out on these preschool quilts! 3 are done! Threads need to be buried and the teachers need to write the labels but amazing progress has been made.

Preschool QuiltingHere is a pic of me binding it, this is my method for turning the backing into the binding, check out my tutorials to learn this fast and easy method!

In other news the floors are ripped out where the fridge leaked and I’m waiting on the floor company to figure out if we can match.  Anne has had some pretty stressful doctor appointments too, but I think that may be mostly behind us until March, so that’s good.

How are all of you doing? I’ve really missed everyone!

Rough Start 2015

Well…let’s just say my 2015 didn’t start of with a bang. Rather it started off quite terribly. Hence my absence.

I came home from vacation to discover that my fridge had died. Which means everything in my fridge had rotted, fermented and started to grow. It was awful. Truly truly awful. On top of that, as I am sitting here typing this, I just noticed my floor is bubbling where the fridge is, life is a bit upside down for me right.

Yesterday was the first opportunity I had to sew this year. I am trying to get these preschool quilts done before February 2nd. Wish me luck!

At least the quilt is happy to offset the deep depression that is setting in over my homeowner issues.  I hope your year has gotten off to a better start than mine.

A Quilt Top is Born

Some times I just get motivated. Last week was one of those times where I was just motivated to finish.

Backlit Spinner Quilt - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.comI love the way a quilt top looks against a bright window.  Always makes me think of stained glass.  This quilt is an original design that sat for almost 3 full years in the UFO pile.  I still need to name it and eventually write the pattern for it, but I am glad the top is finally done. I have a plan for the backing too, which is an added bonus!  Oh and did I mention the entire project will be made from my stash?!?

Spinner Quilt - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.comHere is a regular front view.  I already have the perfect Aurifil thread for quilting this beauty so I should meet my finish by Christmas goal.

The next week and a half will be dedicated to Charity projects. I have a quilt block pattern to write for Do Good Stitches, I am the quilter next month. I also have a bunch of sewing to do for my guild’s QuiltCon charity challenge quilt.

What is on your plate?

June Do Good Stitches

This month the Do. Good Stitches block was a bit of a challenge for me. It had 100 pieces, all measuring 2″ x 2″.  We followed this great tutorial from Feeling Crafty.  It is an interesting technique that involves laying all of your pieces of fabric out on a piece of fusible stabilizer and fusing them before sewing them. Go check it out! The block went together super fast considering all the pieces.

Trust Circle - Do Good Stitches - June 2014 - Low Volume Cross BlockI still have so much to do over the next week. I really feel a bit manic my list is so long.  TOO MUCH STRESS!

Have a happy happy weekend!
