April Bee Blocks

Happy Friday! Today I’m excited! My hubby has the day off, so he and an army buddy will be working on my garden šŸ™‚ They are getting the soil for my raised planter beds! One step closer to planting!Ā  I wanted to show off my Trust Circle, Do Good Stitches bee blocks from this month to you.

This month we are working on a quilt for a little girl, I believe she is 7. We were asked to think “Spring”. One of the suggested blocks was a hexie flower. I also did some thread painting of the stem and the sun. The butterfly is embroidered (I got the design from the Clover and Violet Embroidery 101 QAL, it is from Block 2). We were also asked not to use white fabric for our backgrounds, cheerful colors were requested. I just LOVE this blue.

Ā

For my second block I did a Circle of Geese (pattern found here). This was also a suggested block. I was thinking I might do a sun, but I think 2 of those had already been made by the time I started my blocks. I used some of my favorite fabrics for this block and I love how it turned out.

Next month I am the quilter and I am planning a boy quilt with a spacey theme. I was going to design a block for the other ladies to make but knowing the level of creativity in the group I have decided to give color and theme guidelines and ask them to put that creativity to work, I know they will come up with amazing designs!

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

Hopeful Threads – Spreading the Fluff

Back again this month, I have the wonderful Kristy here to talk about the latest project over at Hopeful Threads. This one is especially dear to her heart and I hope you will be able to find some time this month to join me in sewing some Fluff for Foster Care!

Hi Sew BitterSweet Friends!

I’m so thankful to be back this month to share a very special Hopeful Threads project with you!

This month is extra special, as we are using the project as a way to help celebrate the 1 year anniversary of our youngest daughter’s adoption from foster care. We are doing this by sewing and donating stuffed toys for ourĀ JuvenileĀ Court to distribute to children in foster care when they attend court hearings in conjunction with their case. We are calling it “Fluff For Foster Care” and would love to have you join us!

You can get all the details about the project on the Hopeful Threads blog here.

We have lots of fun inspiration, ideas and even giveaways planned for the whole month, so there’s sure to be LOTS of fluffy fun!

Remember, EVERY STITCH MATTERS! Every single stuffed toy donated means one more child who will receive this special gift and comfort. Our goal is to STUFF our van full and we are off to a great start! Come on over and learn more!

Trust Circle – Do.Good Stitches

I am posting my bee blocks early this month for Do.Good Stitches. I know you are probably a bit surprised as I usually don’t post blocks until much later in the month. Well, this month is a bit different than any other month. This month I am the quilter for my circle. I asked my amazing sewing mates to make wonky log cabin blocks in Blues and greens with pops of Orange and White. Two of the wonderful ladies have already finished their blocks and it is only the 6th!!! I got my blocks done last night. Here they are:

This will be my fourth boy quilt and I have to say I am really excited about it. I do so much little girl stuff, something about having a little girl kind of makes that happen, which is why I wanted to make a boy quilt this time around.

What is everyone else up to?

October do.Good Stitches Blocks

As I’m sure you all probably know after a year of me posting…I’m part of the Trust Circle of do.Good Stitches. This month we are doing a girl quilt. We were requested to make Wonky Stars following the tutorial from The Silly BooDilly.Ā  Pink background with white stars. Here are the blocks I created.

Next month I am the quilter for my Circle and I need to figure out what I am doing. I think I would like to do a boy quilt because, well let’s face it, I make an awful lot of girl stuff!

Another Foray into Clothes

This week I took another step into clothes sewing and made 2 pairs of shorts for boys!Ā  I was inspired by Kristy from Hopeful Threads who is gathering Little Boys Shorts to send to Cambodia.

Here are the shorts I made:

Size 18 Month Shorts

Size 12 Month Shorts

I used this fabulous tutorial AND pattern from Caila-Made. I am really happy with how they turned out. There are a couple of itty bitty puckers but overall, for my first 2 pairs, I’m pleased with them. Now I just have to explain to Anne why her Cars fabric is gone…

Today we are off to ride Thomas the Train with Anne’s Auntie Lisa and her cousins. We have been planning this since March and we are all very excited! Pictures next week!
