Charity

Log Cabins

Last night I finished my bee blocks for the Trust Circle of do.Good Stitches.  I enjoyed these blocks, we were asked to use blue, turquoise and aqua for the blocks with jewel tones in the centers.

I hope these work, I am excited to see the finished quilts from the Trust Circle.  The past couple of days have been a nightmare in Toddlerland. Anne has been throwing lots of temper tantrums, I am working on helping her deal with her emotions and trying to equip her with the words to tell me what is bothering her.  I will keep working with her on that.

Make sure you drop by tomorrow – you won’t be sorry!

Charity Quilt

This weekend I needed a break from bee blocks and I decided to work on something for someone I had never met. At the beginning of the month I went to the Bay Area Modern Quilt Guild meeting and I picked up a charity quilt kit. It had everything I needed, pre-made binding, backing, batting and 16 already constructed quilt blocks. The instructions were to do as much of the quilt as I felt comfortable with and bring it to the next meeting I attend.   I got the whole quilt done.

Here’s a close up of the quilting – all straight line quilting.

I love how cute it turned out and I hope whoever receives it truly enjoys it.

Did you make anything this weekend?

When you have the heart to give

As I have said many times on this blog, I have the heart to give and as often as I can I do. Whether it be donating quilt block to Do.Good Stitches or to Quilting for Kids.  There is something to be said for helping someone you have never met before. Most everything I donate to is quilt related, this is because I am not confident in my non-quilting sewing skills.

Kristy, of Hopeful Threads, also has the heart to give. She is truly an inspiration to not only me, but hundreds of others.  Every month Kristy collects handmade items for a specific charity. Every month I have wanted to donate, it has been in my heart, but I just haven’t felt comfortable with my skill set to make something that I would feel good about donating. I want to donate my best, not my so-so work.

This month I asked Kristy if I could donate in an alternative way, I am donating a dress kit for Dress a Girl Around the World and I will send it to someone who would commit to make a dress and donate it to the cause.

This is my donation. Now it gets even better, Kristy matched my donation with a dress kit as well, after her post went live on Monday two more wonderful bloggers jumped on board with dress kits. Suzanne from Sew Delightful is donating a dress kit and so is my friend from Noguchi Designs. Not only are these wonderfully talented women donating dresses but they are also making it possible for someone else to donate too!

If you have it in your heart to sew a dress and put a smile on a little girls face please go enter the giveaways and sew a dress!

Have a wonderful weekend!

PS. Don’t forget to go enter the generous giveaway from Contemporary Cloth. You have until Sunday!

Weekend Update and other stuff…

This weekend my parents flew in for a quick visit. They had a couple of reasons to visit: they wanted to come to an appointment with Anne and I, Sew Expo was this weekend and my hubby’s birthday was on Saturday. We had a very full weekend.

Starting with Friday, our appointment went off without a hitch, in fact (and I know I’m being cryptic, sorry), it was the best appointment we have had for this particular issue in a year and worthy of celebration.

Saturday my mom and I spent the whole day together. We sent to Sew Expo and well…what to say. I had a really good time, but mostly because I was with my mom. I really enjoyed going to the Superior Threads booth and meeting the whole team. I also met a fellow blogger, Jenny, from Sew Kind of Wonderful and bought her new tool the Quick Curve Ruler.  Believe it or not…the only other things I bought were some clover binding clips and 2 fat quarters. I had a budget of $100 and spent $20 (my mom split the cost of the clips). That night we went out for a lovely dinner for my hubby.

On Sunday I got quilty after my parents left for the airport.

I got the quilting done on my Sister-In-Law’s baby gift

This quilt is called Zig Zag Zoom, I bought it as a kit 3 years ago and I am finally finishing it up. I bought the kit from Always Quilting Online – which is a store where I grew up in San Mateo, CA.

Here is a close-up of the quilting. I did straight line quilting using my 1/4″ foot.

Hoping to get the binding on it before Friday so I can link up to Quilter in The Gap’s Friday Finish party.

Today I made the blocks for Trust Circle of Do.Good Stitches.

This month we were given the tutorial from SewMamaSew Modern Block of the Month for January. We were asked to use white as a base color and then bold solids. What do you think?

Over at Quilting Gallery (run by the wonderful Michele), Pat Sloan is hosting the Learning Center and last week Pat asked me if I could write a short piece answering the question “What is a Pieced Quilt?” Today’s post is all about Quilting Types and Styles – and you can read what I came up with!

There is lots of time left to enter to win a free subscription to Ole Frog Eyes, go check out my review and enter to win!

Holy Buckets Batman, I was long winded today! What are you up to? Any finishes on your horizon?

Twirling Around – Doing Something Good

I normally do not post twice in one day, but today is special.  You may remember my Twirling Around Quilt that I posted pictures of back in January.

Well, yesterday, Julie from The Intrepid Thread made a wonderful announcement on her blog – you can now buy my very first pattern from Julie.

The pattern is being sold exclusively at The Intrepid Thread for $6.00. The best part is that all proceeds are being donated to Heartline – the charity that Julie helps support – on top of that…Julie is matching each donation dollar for dollar. This means, you spend $6.00 and $12.00 will be donated to Heartline.

And did I mention that Julie is have a great giveaway right now too!
