October Finish – Cutest Pink Tiger Ever!

I actually finished my goal way at the beginning of the month. The most complicated article of clothing I have sewn to date, Anne’s Halloween Costume!  I took her shopping at JoAnn’s to pick her fabric and being the pink girl that she is as soon as she spotted the pink tiger stripe, it was all over but the paying.

I used the Simplicity 2855 pattern and was able to use the smallest size, which is nice because the 2 small sizes were printed separately from the larger ones so I could save them for a future costume.  This pattern included tons of new skills for me. The costume is a zip front jumpsuit.  Inserting a zipper into fleece was all new to me, I had to sew the entire costume with my walking foot, and I made a lined hat.  I’m very proud of the way it turned out and as you will notice…I think Anne likes it too!

Here she is from the front, the pink socks were a total coincidence (as I said, this girl loves her pink!). I even made her little mittens – which will come in handy tonight when it is FREEZING!

Check her out from the back. And now for the real cuteness – she felt the need to check out her tail! LOL

So there you have it! My October Finish! Did you finish your goal? There is still time to link up!

We have lots planned today. There will be a costume parade at Kindergym, then preschool in costume, and finally trick or treating later this evening. I bet she sleeps really well tonight!

Happy Halloween!

I’m back!!!

Did you miss me? I can’t even tell you how much I missed blogging this last week!

So here’s the story, my web host has all of its technical support in the Philippines – the day that my issues started was the same day that the Philippines was hit with a huge earthquake. People come before blogs (as they should) and I’ve been down while they got back up and running. There were a few unforeseen bugs on the back end of my blog but now things are up and running smoothly again. I can’t tell you how happy I am about that!

In the meantime, I wanted to give a shout out to my wonderful partner in crime Shanna from Fiber of All Sorts for hosting the mid-month link up party for A Lovely Year of Finishes and my wonderful friend Kristin from Modjeska Designs for helping me sort through this blog mess (she is very tech web savvy, where some days I feel like I don’t even know how to tie my shoes).

With my blog down I had a TON of time to sew! Here’s one of my finishes from last week, new jammies for Anne – McCalls pattern M6643 – size XS.

I do believe they are a hit! It was my first time sewing with knits and thanks to Shanna telling me to use a walking foot it went pretty well. Next time I want to try out a double needle and see how that goes.

Here’s a close up of the shirt:

Hat Happy

The last couple of days I have gone Hat Happy.

Let me start from the beginning. My mom is on Pinterest…a lot! She found this ADORABLE set of Halloween hat patterns. As soon as I saw them I knew I was going to start sewing hats. On Monday I made 2 – both were attempts for Anne, but they were too small for her.

Kitty Hats

With all her curly hair…they were just a touch too tight – keep in mind she is almost 4 and I assumed the child’s sizes would work. I made the Child’s Size Small and the Child’s Size Large. Neither fit.  Yesterday I made her an Adult’s Size Small and that fit like a charm!

I decided that I couldn’t be left out of the fun…plus I am ALWAYS freezing, so I made myself a hat too!

1277073_10151605977876621_1363867987_oI made myself the Adult’s Size Large, were I to make myself another, I would probably make a Size Medium.  I did wear it the rest of the day though (wondering what hubby would have said if he had been home – guess I will find out in a couple weeks).

Each of these patterns and MANY MANY more can be found on FleeceFun.com. Not only are there tons of free patterns but also some wonderful video tutorials.

So…are you wondering what I am doing with the two hats that were too small for Anne? I’m donating them to the October Hopeful Threads project – Hats Off!

Hopeful Threads

Have you been sewing this week? What are you working on? Today Anne and I are heading to JoAnns to buy the fabric for her costume, I see more fleece in my future.

The Skirts are Multiplying!

********If you are looking for my Sew Mama Sew Giveaway, please go here. Today is the last day to enter!

Have I ever mentioned that Anne is a complete girly girl? Skirts, dresses and as much pink as she can possibly get her hands on. She is a little fashionista in the making and I’m really not sure where she gets this from because from the time I was her age I was the jeans and a tee kind of girl.  This is why I’m learning to sew clothes and her homemade skirt collection is GROWING!

After the success of the Robot Skirt, I decided to make her a couple more skirts. The first one was made out of fabric that I have had since I was a teenager. I also used this same fabric as the backing for my first quilt. (sorry for the crappy pics, I was using my cell phone)

I actually made a second one of this skirt for my friend Lisa’s daughter, this fabric is special to us both so it is only fitting that both of our little girls have matching skirts. I used the same tutorial that I used to make the Robot Skirt.

(She loved it!)

The next skirt is another fabric that I bought as a quilt backing. I bought a ton extra because I knew I would eventually make some clothes out of it, it will eventually become the skirt part of a dress as well. I found a great pattern for a bubble skirt on Pinterest. I love Pinterest. The tutorial is by Michaela from Covered in Mod Podge and was posted on The Ribbon Retreat Blog.

This one is quite possibly my personal favorite so far, I just love how it looks on Anne!

One last picture that has nothing to do with sewing…

Anne and I got in a discussion last week about the fact that you can’t paint your toes, so I decided to show her that you can. We had a lot of fun with it and she keeps telling me that I need to paint mine to match! LOL

I hope everyone has a great weekend!!!

Kids Clothes Week – Barely Finished!

Let’s be honest, I’m not known for my sewing skills, I’m known for my quilts and my cute kiddo (at least that’s what I think of her), but one of my goals this year was to work more on my actual sewing skills. I have been taking a class over at Craftsy to learn how to use the serger my mom gifted me 2 summers ago. It has been sitting relatively untouched until this class and I am proud it say that I used it yesterday on my first ever serged project!

Last week Anne and I went to JoAnns and she found a fabric that she wouldn’t let me leave the store without, Robot Twill! Now I had no idea what to do with twill or even how much to buy, thankfully Debbe from Pieces to Love is my go to sewing guru and she texted me how much fabric I should buy for a simple skirt (did I mention our daughters are roughly the same size?).  I spent Sunday afternoon doing lesson 3 of my Beginning Serger class (which I LOVE) and Sunday night selecting a tutorial. I finally settled on the “Simple Skirt” Tutorial from MADE.

I have to say when Anne saw it after her nap she squealed, grabbed it and immediately ran to put it with her other skirts (she has quite the collection my little girly girl). I had to bribe her with candy to get her to let me take her picture, but you will see from the cuteness, that the candy bribe was totally worth it!

I would say she loves it! And because I just love her little curled under toes, one more pic to make you smile!

I am posting this a day after the official challenge has ended but I swear I made this on the 29th of April!

Don’t forget that today is the last day to link up for April’s A Lovely Year of Finishes! I picked out my project for next month and I’m really excited to get to work on it!
