Do.Good Stitches

Marvel Comics Quilt is Quilted!

Spike to the rescue! I have managed to get a Do Good Stitches quilt quilted! All that is left is to bind it and take a final photograph.

Here is the top before it was quilted.

Marvel Quilt - Do Good Stitches - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.comWhen I asked the wonderful ladies of Do Good Stitches to make Marvel themed quilt blocks, I told them they could simply use themed fabrics or let their imaginations and talents run wild. Clearly these ladies have talent!

I got the top pieced together last Friday and I quilt it on Spike on Tuesday. Last night at my guild meeting Heather from Heather’s Creative Blessings took a picture of it for me during sew and share. Once it is bound I will take a picture outside so you can see it in all it’s finished glory. I’m hoping to have it done over the weekend.

Marvel Quilt - Do Good Stitches - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.comI did an all over jagged quilting design because it reminded me of the action and word bubbles you see in comic books, like when they write the word POW! The white blocks I used white thread on, next time I might change that, but overall I am super pleased with my quilting choice. I’m turning the back to the front for a binding, and the backing is three different Marvel fabrics so it should look pretty cool.

I just love being able to bang out quilts!

Do Good Stitches March Blocks

This month I had to dig deep into my fabric stash to make our bee blocks. It was requested that we use large floral prints…those are not abundant in my stash, but luckily I made a commission quilt three years ago out of Kaffe Fassett fabrics and was able to keep my scraps. We made Japanese X and + blocks using this tutorial by City Stitches.

Trust Circle - Do Good Stitches - X+ Block - March 2016We had a beautiful spring day yesterday so my blocks are slightly over exposed but I thought they looked pretty with the sun beaming on them.

I’ve been working my through the sampler quilt I have loaded on Spike. I will post photos as soon as it is done, there are a few progress photos on Instagram. You don’t need an account to view photos, only to comment and like them, so please feel free to check them out. I will also try to post some to Facebook today so you can see them there too!  When you click on these links, they take you straight to my pages.

Have a wonderful Tuesday!

February 2016 Goal

Clearly we are quite a ways in to February, 9 days is a lot when there are only 29 days in a month, but alas, my month was cut short by Anne’s hospital stay last week.

My goal for this month is to get a top pieced together for Do Good Stitches Trust Circle. I was quilter for the month of November last year and I requested blocks inspired by the Marvel Comics. Holy crow did my group deliver. I got the last two blocks last week and I’m ready to make a top now. Check out the incredible blocks:

We have a great variety of paper pieced blocks, appliqued blocks and come blocks that feature the Marvel fabrics. I am also so amazed by the talent of the women I sew with!

What are you working on?

January Do Good Stitches

As many of you know, I feel very strongly about sewing for charity when and where I can. For the past several years I have been part of the Trust Circle of Do Good Stitches. It is an amazing group to be part of and I truly love every minute of it. This month we were asked to make three Preppy the Whale blocks, pattern by Elizabeth Hartman. Elizabeth was incredibly generous and donated copies of the pattern to our group so we could make the blocks.  Here are mine:

Trust Circle - Do Good Stitches - Preppy the Whale - January 2016I cannot wait to see what this quilt looks like, I am certain it will be positively adorable. To see more of what our circle does you can look at our hashtag on Instagram #dgstrustcircle
