Stacked Pyramids – First 2016 Finish

Stacked Pyramids - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.comHere it is! My first finish of 2016.

Now I can’t take full credit for this gorgeous quilt. It is my pattern of Stacked Pyramids, but the lovely ladies of the Trust Circle of Do Good Stitches made all but two of the blocks. I pieced 2 blocks, then pieced all the blocks together, quilted it and bound it. It is always such an amazing and heartwarming experience to quilt with these incredibly talented women. I feel so blessed to work with them.

After I finished writing the pattern, I sent free copies to all of the ladies in my quilting circle and asked them to make two blocks in Aqua, Raspberry and Kona Ash. My favorite part is how scrappy the blocks are. I could never make a scrappy quilt like this from my stash, but these women are all over the country and we have such varied stashes.

I quilted this at Sewtopia on a Bernina sit down long arm machine. It was an interesting experience.  Here is a close up of the quilting.

Simple all over design. I used the backing fabric as the binding. What is most special is that this quilt was donated to a foster child at Anne’s school. I gave it to her Kindergarten teacher who, in turn, gave it to the school counselor to deliver.  It makes my heart feel so good to be able to support a local foster child and someone who is in Anne’s community.

If you like the pattern, please visit my Craftsy shop to purchase it. The block pattern is $2.50. This is for the block only, it does not provide yardage or instructions to make the full quilt, though that might be in the works at some point in the future.

Do you have any finishes yet?

Sewtopia Post 2

I had the most amazing time at Sewtopia, the best part was spending time with two of my closest friends.

This is Vicki and Shanna of Fiber of All Sorts.

And here we are, all three in our “best roommates ever” glory, sporting our shirts that state quite definitively that we quilt so we don’t kill people 🙂

There was lots of socializing and quilting too. Here is one of the Do. Good Stitches quilt tops that I finally pieced together. There is no pattern for this quilt top, it is white wonky stars on a variety of solid blue backgrounds. You can totally make this quilt!!

Charity Sewing

I have been a bit behind in sharing my charity sewing with you. For Do Good Stitches Trust Circle in September we made these awesome granny squares.

Trust Circle - Do Good Stitches - September 2015These were made with charm squares and were super easy to make! Link here.

The Modern Quilt Guild I belong too is making Improv blocks for our Quilt Con charity quilt challenge. This is the block I made. I would like to make one more before our next meeting.

QuiltCon Improv Block

For October, Trust Circle is working on jewel tone and low volume blocks for a very special young lady. Here is my first block. My second one is on the back burner until I finish Merida. Luckily I can bust out these circle of geese blocks fairly quickly. Pattern here.

Trust Circle - Do Good Stitches - October 2015 Block 1Yesterday I started working on Merida. There are 19 different paper pattern pieces that I had to cut out. And an unbelievable amount of fabric pieces to cut. This is going to be my biggest clothing sewing challenge yet!

Have a wonderful Tuesday! I will have some pictures from the Pacific International Quilt Festival later this week. Anne was my official photographer so I need to go through the pictures she took!

Oh! And today is my 8th Wedding Anniversary! So Happy Anniversary to me and the mister.

August Do. Good Stitches Blocks

Hi Everyone! I finished my Do. Good Stitches blocks for August on the 31st, I may have procrastinated just a little bit…

Trust Circle - Do Good Stitches - August 2015We were supposed to take our inspiration from the artwork of David Hockney

There were some really awesome blocks created for this quilt and I’m looking forward to seeing the quilt come together.

My top block I picked a batik that reminded me of rippling water, and for the second block I wanted to show the different shades of blue that you see in shallow, medium depth and deep waters. I hope I accomplished those goals.

Today is day three of the Jaftex Blog Hop, make sure you head over to Anjeanette Klinder’s blog to check out her post! – http://anjeanettek.com

Have a wonderful Thursday!
