Do.Good Stitches

Email and Blocks

Have you ever just felt so behind you don’t know if you can dig out of the chasm that has been created. That is how I feel. The first 2.5 weeks of this deployment have been so difficult, much more so than I anticipated. Largely because Anne is so much older this time and it is taking a deeper emotional toll on her than the last two. Age really does matter.  I am dreadfully behind on email. I’m going to try and catch up this week. If I haven’t replied to a comment, please know I am reading all of them, I’m just not really finding the time to sit down and respond to each one.

As terrible as it sounds, while I am behind on email, I am not behind on sewing, mainly because when Anne is napping it is exceptionally therapeutic for me to sit behind my machine and sew my heart out.  It makes all the pain and exhaustion go away.

Here are my bee blocks from August for Do Good Stitches, I am happy to report they were even mailed on time!

Week 31 Goals

This week I just want to finish a quilt. The one I posted about last week for my Do. Good Stitches group. I am about 3/5 of the way done quilting, then I just need to trim and bind it. I am working at our local county fair on Wednesday and I would love to have a binding project to work on while doing my 3 hour shift. Anne will be with me too and I’m planning on bringing her DVD player to watch a couple movies on.

Have a great Monday!

Week 30 Goals

I have 3 goals this week. Number 1 is to get caught up on emails. Number 2 is to start getting caught up on all my wonderful blogging friends and what they have been up to.  Number 3 I want to finish piecing this top and get it basted if I can.

These are the blocks I requested from the Trust Circle of Do Good Stitches back in May when it was my month to be the quilter. I asked for the ladies to make their 2 favorite HST blocks using cool colors. I told them the quilt would be for a teenage girl. Can I just say that these ladies delivered!!! I feel so incredibly blessed to work with these women. I have connected with Kristy from Hopeful Threads to find this quilt a home and that is a whole different story that has made me cry several times.

Wish me luck as I work on this gorgeous quilt!

On a different note, today I am entering two quilts and a dress into our local county fair. I am nervous to put myself out there for “judging” but excited at the same time.

Have a wonderful Monday!

June Do Good Stitches

This month the Do. Good Stitches block was a bit of a challenge for me. It had 100 pieces, all measuring 2″ x 2″.  We followed this great tutorial from Feeling Crafty.  It is an interesting technique that involves laying all of your pieces of fabric out on a piece of fusible stabilizer and fusing them before sewing them. Go check it out! The block went together super fast considering all the pieces.

Trust Circle - Do Good Stitches - June 2014 - Low Volume Cross BlockI still have so much to do over the next week. I really feel a bit manic my list is so long.  TOO MUCH STRESS!

Have a happy happy weekend!

Do Good Stitches Finishes

I love when I finish up a quilt. I love it even more when I know those quilts will be providing warmth and comfort to someone in need. On Saturday I finished up 2 special quilts that are being donated to the Hopeful Threads 2014 Quarter 1 project.

Without further ado, here are the 2 quilts that I helped make for the Trust Circle of Do Good Stitches. For my month as quilter I requested I-Spy blocks with Kona Ash as a solid. I got back some amazing blocks!
