January – A Lovely Year of Finishes Participant Highlight – Katy at Lethargic Lass

ALYoF2014If you were with Shanna and I last year we did a mid-month check-in. These were fun, but some work for us that wasn’t heavily linked-up.

This year we’re trying something new.

For the middle of the month, we’re going to highlight a person that participates in #ALYoF so we can encourage everyone to visit one another. You all are what makes this link up so exciting.

Okay our fantastic sponsors help a bunch too!

This will fall in the middle of the month so you don’t forget us and the goal you chose during the beginning of the month.

This month we are going to highlight a long-time participant of A Lovely Year of Finishes

Katy from Lethargic Lass

Blog name: LethargicLass

Blog address: http://lethargiclass.blogspot.com/

Name you’re known by throughout quilting world: LethargicLass (Katy)

What’s your ALYoF goal this month? To finish my project for the Mosaic Tiles blog hop from the Modern Bee book

How do you approach your sewing goals? I try to make my goals do-able,and as well, I set little progress goals on more than one project at a time so I don’t get bored. One day I might chain-piece HSTs for one project and iron and trim something from another project.

How do you organize/prioritize your projects? I keep the pattern (whether printed or a book) with the fabrics and any templates either in a baggie, or a plastic storage tub depending on size. I keep any hand-sewing or embroidery projects at my computer desk, as well as small things to trim so I can do them while watching tv or checking emails.

What is your current favorite project that you are working on? Will you share pictures with us? My favourite project right now is my newest and most unplanned one. On the same day that a friend released a great tutorial, another friend announced a pregnancy… it had to be done! The tutorial I am using can be found here http://euphoriajessica.blogspot.com/2014/01/scrappy-slice-o-pie-blocks-tutorial.html

What is your dream project to work on? I have almost all of Jen Kingwell’s patterns. Any one of them would be a dream really… I am just working on convincing myself I can do it šŸ™‚

What is your favorite time of day to sew? Pretty much anytime other than late evening… I go to bed early, and if I am still sewing it tempts me to stay up, so I have to stop myself lol.

What is your favorite quilting/sewing accessory? Hard one… probably my Best Press and seam ripper… with those two I can fix almost anything!

What is your number one quilting/sewing goal for 2014? to actually make more quilts. I normally do so many swaps that I don’t get time to make quilts, and I want to return to more quilts, less smaller items.

What is one technique you really want to learn? I would like to learn FMQ… I figure with making more quilts this year that shouldn’t be a problem!

Thank you so much Katy for joining us today! We loved learning more about you!!!

Don’t forget to link up your finishes during the last 7 days of the month! We can’t wait to see them!

January 2014 Goal Party – A Lovely Year of Finishes

ALYoF20142014 is here! Time to start setting some sewing goals. If you are new to A Lovely Year of Finishes, we like small, achievable goals. We want to set ourselves up for success.  Each month we will set one goal that we want to accomplish. The goal can be anything you like: cut out an entire quilt, piece a top, bind a quilt, sew an outfit, etc. Shanna and I are all about our sewing and quilting adventures, so let’s try to keep the goals on topic.

At the start of each month you will set one goal, post a picture and link up either here with me, or with the wonderfully talent Shanna. During the month you work on your goal and at the end of the month, write a post about your finish and link up to our finishes party. Easy Peasy!

My January goal is a simple one. All of 2013 I was a stripper. I stripped with a wonderful group of ladies and this is my stripper quilt:

Flying Stripper Quilt - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.comSorry for the crappy cell phone pic but it is all I’ve got since I’m traveling for the holidays. (And I’m only lucky enough to have this one because Shanna had it saved on her phone from when I emailed it to her last month – Shanna is a stripper too!)

My goal is to make my in between rows. I want to make small rows of geese to go between each stripper row. I have no real plan yet for the rows but I think that is achievable for me.

1. Link-up {on this post} the first 7-days of the month

and

2. Link-up in the last 7-days of the month.

Add your blog post or flickr photo (with appropriate descriptions) to the linky party below.

A Lovely Year of Finishes – 2013 Finale Party!

Congratulations! You made it to the end of 2013! Pat yourself on the back for all the finishes you have accomplished!  This is the 2013 Finale party, in order to participate you need to have finished 6 of your stated goals from our parties throughout 2013.  Shanna and I were continuously blown away each month by all of your hard work and we can’t wait to see all of your finishes in one spot! Here are my finishes from our parties in order of completion:

2013 ALYoF - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.comThere is something so cool about seeing all of my finishes from our parties in one place. I used the Big Huge Labs Mosaic Maker to make my mosaic – it is super easy to use!  There were more finishes this year but I am most proud of these because I set simple goals and I accomplished them.  What has set 2013 apart for me is that in the past I haven’t been the best at finishing my goals, but thanks to all of you I had the encouragement I needed to git ‘er done! This year has me really looking forward to 2014!

We are so lucky to have some amazing sponsors for our finale party. They of course add to the fun of it all!

The rules for the finale party are pretty simple:

You need to have successfully finished 6 of the goals you set for yourself in 2013.

You need to have linked each goal and each finish to the parties that Shanna and I hosted throughout the year.

Make a Mosaic or simply post a picture of each of your finishes.

Link up here or with the lovely Shanna!

Prizes for the Finale Party Include:

1. $35.00 Gift Certificate to Fat Quarter Shop

2. & 3. TWO winners each getting to choose one pdf pattern
from Sew BitterSweet Designs($10 value)

https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.com/

4. A CraftsyClass (winners choice of class)

I heart Craftsy!

5. A Fat Quarter Bundle from Moda United Notions

6. A Paper Piecing Kit from Paper Pieces

7. Thread Color Chart and Thread Pack from Aurifil

8. Quilting Patterns designed by Quilting Lodge

9. Gift Certificate from The Intrepid Thread
