February A Lovely Year of Finishes – Mid Month Check In

Well it’s that time! The middle of the month, time to check in and show of your progress so far. This is a short month so it is going to be a short party, only 5 days – it is going run from the 15th of February until the 20th.

Here’s my progress to date. All my blocks for my row are done. I have to decide their layout and whether to sew them to Shanna’s row (how they are pictured now) or at the bottom under Shelley’s row.

Here are close ups of the last 2 blocks I made. The first I made loosely following a tutorial from Pile of Fabric on Improv Curves. It is a great tutorial and I just modified it for putting it at a diagonal in a quilt block.

The second block I designed and will hopefully be doing a tutorial for next week. I am calling it “Ovulating Spiral” in honor of the quilt it was designed for.

Time to show of your progress and don’t forget there are prizes on the line for those of you who finish their stated goal from the beginning of the month, you can read about them here.

Don’t forget you can link up here or over at Fiber of All Sorts, no need to link up twice. If you are having issues shoot me an email or a comment and I will happily help you out!

A Lovely Year of Finishes – February Goal Setting Party

I can’t believe it is already February 1st, how did that happen? The year is already 8.3% over and it just started!  In January alone this amazing group of stitchers had over 120 finishes! Can you believe that?!?  I was just so proud to have finished my first quilt of the year and I can’t wait to move on to my next project for 2013.  This one is not an entire quilt and I won’t even find out what the finished top will look like until almost the end of the year.  I will be working on the next row for my Strip Quilting Group.

My partner in crime, Shanna, made the top row and the queen for this particular quilt is Brookquilt (Shelley) and her theme is “Do Strippers Make More When They Ovulate?” Shelley made the bottom row. Now I already know that Shelley loves Kaffe Fassett fabrics so I will be pulling from my stash. The requirements for this particular quilt are that we use Kona Black (provided) and bright saucy colors. Here are the fabrics I will be pulling from:

I’m not sure why but the colors are a bit off in the picture, sorry about that.  My drop deadline date is February 28th, so wish me luck that I can have this done. I will also be working on several other bee blocks for Bee Awesome (the last month) and Do.Good Stitches Trust Circle. If I’m feeling really scrappy I would like to get borders on my Sew Intertwined quilt and get it basted…but we’ll see about that.

So what do you have planned for February?!?

Add your blog post or flickr photo (with appropriate descriptions) to the linky party below.

**Please note, the linky party is the same here and over at Shanna’s, so there is no need to enter twice **

Make sure you check out the details of 2013 ~ A Lovely Year of Finishes found here or here, we’ve also added a Q&A Page for you.

A Lovely Year of Finishes – January Finishes Party!

January is finally starting to wind down, which means we have come to the end of our first linky party! I think it can be categorically agreed upon that this first month was a rousing success. There are more than 350 people finishing with us over on Flickr. We had 218 entries into our goal setting party and I cannot wait to see all the finishes for this month.  Remember you can link up here or over at Shanna’s blog, Fiber of All Sorts, no need to sign up twice.

Here is my finish for January 2013 – I am so excited because I finished it with plenty of time to spare but it also went to a loving home who needed a little sunshine on the day it arrived. (I blogged about it here.)

Progress Towards My January Goal

On Saturday, Anne, my wonderful Dad, and I spent 12.5 long hours in my truck. We drove from San Mateo, CA to Olympia, WA.  It was a great drive, I got an awesome phone call at the beginning and it set the mood for the whole ride.  My dad said “You didn’t stop smiling the whole day.”  Which is pretty unusual for me as I do not enjoy long car rides!

That night after I got my dad and Anne fed, and Anne put to bed, I ended up in my sewing room all alone (my dad crashed early because he was so exhausted from being the driver).  I spent about an hour in there straightening up and re-setting up my beautiful lady (my Janome Horizon 7700). I missed her so much! I spent yesterday’s nap time unpacking all of the sewing gear I brought down to my parents house and also all of the new stuff I acquired…new goal for 2013, no more fabric buying because I am officially out of space – yes my husband will have a heart attack when he sees all I have now!

The best part was last night though, after Anne and my dad were both in bed I spent 2.5 hours in my sewing room working on my January goal project for A Lovely Year of Finishes! To see my goal project, check out the link up post here, and while you are over there…link up your project! Today is the last day!!!

Here’s my progress:

Basted BlocksYou may have noticed that this just looks like a bunch of basted blocks…well it is! I am going to be following this Quilt As You Go method that I pinned forever and a day ago. I am changing it slightly because I am pin basting my blocks instead of spray basting. It is pouring rain up here in WA and I only spray baste outside, so that isn’t gonna work for me.  I’m pretty sure it won’t make a difference.

Stacked Blocks

Here they are all stacked up. I have 18, so I think I will turn the 2 left over blocks into a diaper bag of sorts to go with the quilt, which is being donated to a foster baby.

How are you doing with the goals you set for our Lovely Year of Finishes January Party?  If you haven’t linked up you have until midnight tonight, so get on it!!!
