Blogger’s Quilt Festival – Fall 2014
It is that lovely time of year again when the Blogger’s Quilt Festival gets into full swing and we get to see so many incredible creations from across the blogosphere. A quick thank you to Amy from Amy’s Creative Side for hosting this fun event! Make sure you visit the festival so you can see all the gorgeous creations!
I decided to enter the small quilt category with my Flowering Lone Star quilt. Those of you who have been with me for awhile are already familiar with this quilt, so I apologize for repeating myself. For those who are new, you should know that I have been on a Lone Star Kick this year. I’ve made 3 different lone star quilts and one block tutorial. Some ideas just get stuck in your head.
I decided to do circular spiral quilting on this one just to add some movement. It reminds me of a very still pool of water and someone threw a stone into it.
This quilt is reversible, I had lots of extra diamond pieces so I created a pieced backing, which later became the 2nd quilt. Gotta love reversible quilts. I call the backing Bursting Lone Stars. These stars are also known as Le Moyne stars – in my research I discovered that there are about 12 different names for this one block alone!
I didn’t intend for this quilt to be a Christmas quilt, but the colors just kind of lend itself to Christmas so this beauty will be gracing the couches of my living room throughout the month of December.
