Blogger’s Quilt Festival – Fall 2014

https://www.amyscreativeside.com/

It is that lovely time of year again when the Blogger’s Quilt Festival gets into full swing and we get to see so many incredible creations from across the blogosphere. A quick thank you to Amy from Amy’s Creative Side for hosting this fun event!  Make sure you visit the festival so you can see all the gorgeous creations!

I decided to enter the small quilt category with my Flowering Lone Star quilt. Those of you who have been with me for awhile are already familiar with this quilt, so I apologize for repeating myself. For those who are new, you should know that I have been on a Lone Star Kick this year.  I’ve made 3 different lone star quilts and one block tutorial.  Some ideas just get stuck in your head.

Flowering Lone Star - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.com I decided to do circular spiral quilting on this one just to add some movement. It reminds me of a very still pool of water and someone threw a stone into it.

Quilting Flowering Lone Star 2 - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.comThis quilt is reversible, I had lots of extra diamond pieces so I created a pieced backing, which later became the 2nd quilt. Gotta love reversible quilts. I call the backing Bursting Lone Stars. These stars are also known as Le Moyne stars – in my research I discovered that there are about 12 different names for this one block alone!

Bursting Lone Stars - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.comI didn’t intend for this quilt to be a Christmas quilt, but the colors just kind of lend itself to Christmas so this beauty will be gracing the couches of my living room throughout the month of December.

Quilt Stats:
Front Name – Flowering Lone Star
Back Name – Bursting Lone Stars
Measures – 51″ x 51″
Quilting Thread – Aurifil
Pattern Design – Melissa Dunworth (Me)

I hope you enjoy the festival and thank you so much for stopping by and visiting!

I Finished! May Finish – A Lovely Year of Finishes

Nothing like waiting until the very last minute to show my finish, right? I actually finished the top for this quilt about a week ago. Then I started making the back because I got a bit obsessed and then because I just couldn’t walk away, I quilted it too!  Next up is binding and then pattern writing. Overall I am going to declare May a very successful month!

Flowering Lonestar Outside - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.comI couldn’t get a very good shot outside of the back, it was windy (as you might be able to tell in the picture above) and when I got inside and looked at the pictures they were all blurry. Darn you nature for messing with my quilt pictures!

Back Mini Lonestars - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.comI cannot wait to get this quilt bound! I am definitely entering it into our county fair this year, even if no one else loves it, I do!

Quilt Stats:

Quilt Name: Flowering Lonestar
Fabrics: Kona Steel and Modern Poppy
Thread: Aurifil 50wt Grey SmokeDesigned & Quilted by: Melissa Dunworth (that’s me!)

I will hopefully be sending this pattern to my testers by the middle of the month!  I hope you all have a wonderful Saturday!

Week 22 Goals

I just realized I haven’t posted goals for the last 2 weeks. I swear, May has just been testing my resolve on every level!  Moving on!

I have finished my new Flowering Lone Star, which if you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you will have seen it already, and now I am working on the backing for it. My goal this week is to turn these stars into a backing for the quilt. I already have a quilting plan (which is a minor miracle!), so I am really excited to get this done!

Flowering Lonestar Backing ProgressWhat are your plans for this week? Are you finishing up your May Goal for A Lovely Year of Finishes? You can link up here if you are already done!
