Intrepid Thread

Happy Friday!

Hi Everyone! Happy Friday! We had a bit of a rough day yesterday in our house. It started off when Anne and I came downstairs and I realized that it smelled funny. I looked everywhere for the source of the odor. All the usual places: trash can, fridge, ripening fruit on the counter. Nothing smelled weird. Took me about 30 minutes before I realized we had a gas leak! Little bit scary.  I called the power company and we were told to evacuate the house until they showed up. Turns out we had a leak where the gas line connects to our oven and it was due to faulty installation. Ugh! At least it wasn’t me and the hubs who did it!

So, I hope you will understand that I am taking the day off. I may not even sew today, just want to relax a little and recover from yesterday’s events.

Today is the last day to enter the wonderful giveaway from Julie at Intrepid Thread. I will be announcing the winner tomorrow morning. Go enter, you have until 9pm Pacific Time!

Intrepid Thread Highlight & Giveaway

Welcome all Blog Hoppers from Quilting Gallery! If this is your first time here please take a few moments to check out my tutorials section and if you see something you like I would love it if you would follow my blog (there are lots of ways to do so in my sidebar!).

Do you like fresh modern fabrics? Do you like excellent customer service? How about just a little fabric eye candy? If so, then The Intrepid Thread is the fabric shop for you!

Julie recently launched her new website and there are so many features that I love that I don’t really know where to start. The shop is split into 8 sections: Coming Soon, Fabrics by Collection, Fabrics by Designer, Fabrics by Manufacturer, Just Arrived, Patterns and Notions, Pre-Cuts and Bundles, and lastly but by no means least – Sale Fabrics.

To celebrate the Grand Opening of the new website Julie is offering a 10% off coupon GRNDOPN10 through March 22nd.

Julie started her own business because she wanted to create a fabric shopping experience that encompassed superior customer service and offered the top of the line modern fabrics. She has accomplished all of that and more. She has a reputation for her impeccable taste in fabrics and she is more than happy to put together a custom bundle and help customers choose coordinating fabrics. She did this for me recently, helping me pick out fabrics for my month in Sew Bee Blissful – she put a custom bundle together of Ty Pennington’s Impressions Line.

I LOVE Intrepid Thread’s Coming Soon Section. Here are a two of my favorite lines that are coming out soon:

Flying Free – Coming in April 2012

Kharma Baby – Coming in April 2012
(Please – one of my friend please get preggers so I have an excuse!!!)

Now Julie and I want to know what your favorites are in the coming soon section. You may be asking yourselves: “And what are you going to offer in exchange for our valuable opinions (yes they are valuable!)?”

How does a Fat Quarter Bundle of Desert Daydreams in Santa Fe Sky sound?!? This is the exact same bundle I used when I made my Desert Daydreams Apron that went out in The Intrepid Thread newsletter last night – now you can make one too if you like. Of course you can absolutely make something else too if you are the big winner!

There will be 3 entries available for this giveaway (to enter you must be a follower of my blog – this does not count as an entry):

  1. Head over to the coming soon section of The Intrepid Thread website and tell us your favorite line (1 entry)
  2. Like Sew BitterSweet Designs on Facebook – come back and tell me you did (1 entry)
  3. Blog, Tweet or Facebook about this giveaway, come back and share the link (1 entry)

Blog Hop Party with Give-AwaysThis giveaway will be open through March 23rd at 9pm PST. I will announce the winner on March 24th. Good luck everyone and happy day dreaming over future fabric purchases!

2 More Finishes!

Well, I am calling one of these a finish, but it still needs to be quilted. I completed my first ever Quilt-A-Long! I can’t tell you how excited I am to have actually finished it AND finished it in time.

I would like to start with a huge thank you to Jenna from SewHappyGeek, for designing such a gorgeous quilt and having amazingly easy to follow tutorials. She is so talented! If you aren’t already following her blog you really should! My second thank you is to my dear friend Dawn, who surprised me with the gift of Rendezvous in November – my favorite fabric line from this winter. As you can see, it makes a gorgeous quilt!

(As a side note, I finished the top last Friday and I’m super glad I took pictures that day because since then we have had nothing but rain and snow here!)

I have one more finish to share…my first ever APRON! And…it is my own design!

I am calling this the “Desert Daydreams Apron”. The fabrics are designed by Khristian Howell (who also designed Rendezvous – yes I love her fabrics!). Julie from Intrepid Thread sent me a fat quarter bundle of Desert Daydreams in Santa Fe Sky and this is what I came up with. Do you like it?!? If so, make sure you are signed up to receive Julie’s newsletter, it goes out tomorrow and my tutorial for the apron will be in there (you can sign up from the Intrepid Thread Blog)!

In case you are wondering, this is how I keep myself out of trouble…it helps that Anne has been taking 3 hour long naps lately! I am really going to miss nap time when it goes away, which everyone keeps telling me is going to happen any day now.

Are you keeping busy and out of trouble?

Twirling Around – Doing Something Good

I normally do not post twice in one day, but today is special.  You may remember my Twirling Around Quilt that I posted pictures of back in January.

Well, yesterday, Julie from The Intrepid Thread made a wonderful announcement on her blog – you can now buy my very first pattern from Julie.

The pattern is being sold exclusively at The Intrepid Thread for $6.00. The best part is that all proceeds are being donated to Heartline – the charity that Julie helps support – on top of that…Julie is matching each donation dollar for dollar. This means, you spend $6.00 and $12.00 will be donated to Heartline.

And did I mention that Julie is have a great giveaway right now too!

Merry Christmas

Christmas is a special time of year. Since marrying someone in the military and experiencing my first deployment it has come to have so much more meaning to me. It is a time for my family to reflect on our blessings and hold tight to each other.  Every holiday that we get to spend together is a small miracle to me and something that I truly cherish.

There are several traditions that we have had for years and I thought I would share them with you. Tonight we will have dinner with my God Parents – we have done this every year since I can remember. This year, however, there will be a first – it will be the first time that I cook dinner for my family.  Wish me luck!

After dinner we will exchange our gifts with my God Parents and my mom will give us our Christmas Eve jammies – my favorite tradition growing up.  After that we will read the bible to Anne and read “The Night Before Christmas“.  My mom has been reading that to me since 1988 when she first bought us the book – and now I get to read it to my daughter. How special is that?!?

Here is a new fun Christmas tradition – giving a present to one of my bloggy friends!

Congratulations Deb A, she said:

“I am a new follower! Thanks”

I will be emailing you shortly to get your information to send on to Julie!

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas!
