Sew BitterSweet Designs Patterns

Posy Quilt

Anne has strep throat. She spent Saturday night learning how to “aim for the bucket” and spent most of Sunday sleeping. We had 6 hour trip to the ER on Sunday night to find out she had a “throat infection” and did a second round of testing yesterday to find out she actually has strep throat. Bring on the antibiotics and send prayers that mommy doesn’t get it next!  In the meantime, naps are long and mama has been quilting.

The quilt went together quickly and has some very special to the baby mama and me fabric on the back. I’ve had the fabric since we were teenagers and we both had dresses made from it. I’m pretty sure that, even though it will be years until baby understands how special it is, mommy will make sure she one day understands how precious it is.

Quilt Stats:

Designed, Pieced & Quilted by: Melissa Dunworth (Me)
Fabric: Posy by Aneela Hoey
Measures: 64″ x 54″

I will be mailing this quilt off soon. I just love knowing that it will not only be well loved but also well used!

Come back Friday to link up your April Finishes, I still have to finish mine. I have two more sides of binding to hand sew down. This month I am the Tortoise!

Quilting Flux

I bet you don’t know what quilt design I’m talking about when I say Flux. Well Flux is actually a Zentangle design. In the quilting world, it is better known as Feathers.  I am working on Flux/Feathers because it is a common Zentangle design and I am planning to do a whole cloth Zentangle inspired quilt. Using a white fabric and black thread. I am intimidated by the idea of black on white but also intrigued because I think it will look special if I get it right.

In the mean time, lots of Free Motion Quilting practice is going on in my studio. Today I quilted a baby quilt that measure 53″ x 63″. I was pretty excited because I did the whole thing in 3 hours, which is pretty darn fast for me!

I used a layer cake of Posy by Aneela Hoey to put together this cheerful little baby quilt. Then I completely covered it in feathers. I practiced going around curves, doing them straight and using them to fill awkward spaces. I am really pleased with how they turned out.

Feather Practice - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.comSorry for the lighting, but I didn’t want to use a flash because it washed out the quilting and the lighting yesterday afternoon in my studio wasn’t the greatest for pictures.

Feather Close - up - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.comI’m very happy with how the quilting turned out. Now I need to get this bound and sent off to my wonderful friend as her baby girl is already over 2 weeks old!

I hope everyone is having a great week!

Raising the Sun – A new mini quilt

Happy last day of March everyone! Did you survive? I barely did! Did you finish your goal for March? You have a few more hours to link up. You can do it! Burn the midnight oil, after all, we’ve got awesome prizes!

One of the things I worked on in the month of March was two mini quilts for a birthday club that I am part of. Both are original designs. One is destined to be a pattern and will appear at a later date. The other could become a pattern if enough people express an interest.

Raising The Sun:

Here is the back. I used the backing as the binding this time, so I had to do my label a little differently than my usual binding label.

Here’s a close up of that label:

Raising the Sun Label - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.comI had a lot of fun designing this mini, though I have to admit that it is outside my color comfort zone.

What have you been up to? Come back tomorrow for the April goal party!

Black to White Challenge

As a member of a Pacific Northwest Modern Quilt Guild, I have the opportunity to compete in a fabric challenge for the Quilt! Knit! Stitch! show that is this summer in Portland, Oregon.

I drew up what I think is a fairly cool design and started pulling fabrics. I am working with prints and solids.

Initial Fabric Pulls BTW - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.comI also pulled all of my black and gray solids.

Solids BTW Challenge - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.comI find new quilts so exciting to work on. I just hope I can get the top finished before we have to move out of the house because right now it covers two different design walls and I really don’t like the idea of having to take it all down and reassembling it. Wish me luck!

Tomorrow is the linky party for March Finishes! Remember you have until March 31st to link up. Good luck finishing!
