Sew BitterSweet Designs Patterns

Swirling Out of Control

This past week I have been working on my submission for the Michael Miller Couture Cottons Challenge for Quilt Con.  Each person who signed up was sent 8 fat eighths of the pastel colors from the Couture Cotton line by Michael Miller. I have found this to be especially challenging because pastels, for the most part, turn me off, but hey, that’s what makes this a challenge…right!

I have posted a couple full views on Facebook and on Instagram. I don’t have a good pic on my camera to post on here.  I will share a full view when it is all done.  For now, here is a picture of my quilting progress. I finished the FMQ yesterday and started on the straight-ish quilting. I am doing gentle curves with my walking foot.

Pastel Challenge Quilt - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.comWhen I finally finish this one up, I will tell you all about my inspiration and how I made the quilt.  Maybe by the time I finish I will also have a name, right now it I am just calling it the pastel quilt because I just haven’t thought of anything more fitting yet.

I will tell you black thread on black fabric is very challenging to quilt with because it is very hard to see where you have been and to keep the swirls from running into each other!

Have a happy Monday!

Work-In-Progress Wednesday

This week I have been busily working on my A Lovely Year of Finishes goal. Normally I don’t attempt to bust my goal out in the first week of the month but I volunteered to make 4 quilts to be raffled off at Anne’s preschool so my sewing time is about to shift back to charity mode pretty quickly.

Spinner Quilt - FMQ Progress - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.comI’m really happy with the quilting design that I came up with. In fact the only quilting I have left to do is in the gray sections and the borders.  I’m hoping to bust it out today during preschool!

Have a Happy Wednesday and if you haven’t already, go link up your November goal!

A Quilt Top is Born

Some times I just get motivated. Last week was one of those times where I was just motivated to finish.

Backlit Spinner Quilt - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.comI love the way a quilt top looks against a bright window.  Always makes me think of stained glass.  This quilt is an original design that sat for almost 3 full years in the UFO pile.  I still need to name it and eventually write the pattern for it, but I am glad the top is finally done. I have a plan for the backing too, which is an added bonus!  Oh and did I mention the entire project will be made from my stash?!?

Spinner Quilt - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.comHere is a regular front view.  I already have the perfect Aurifil thread for quilting this beauty so I should meet my finish by Christmas goal.

The next week and a half will be dedicated to Charity projects. I have a quilt block pattern to write for Do Good Stitches, I am the quilter next month. I also have a bunch of sewing to do for my guild’s QuiltCon charity challenge quilt.

What is on your plate?

New Life

Have you ever had one of those projects that you started for no reason and then fell out of love with it and stashed it into a drawer?  I have lots of them, I can admit it.  Today’s project got stashed in a drawer for lots of reasons, but it is coming back to life.  Someone in my life is pregnant and having a baby girl and I thought this would be an adorable quilt for them. I designed it back in 2012 and I am changing the design slightly, more on that in a future post once I have made a few more blocks.

Spinner Quilt - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.comSo here is a sewing confession for you, I love batiks! My great grandparents are from French Polynesia and I swear it is just in my blood. So here is my pink, yellow and purple spinner baby quilt.  At least the start of it. The blocks are only 8.5″ by 8.5″ so I have quite a few more to make before it is a decent sized baby quilt.

Have a Happy Wednesday!
