Work It Wednesday

Wow, I have been gone from the blog for…well it feels like forever. Time for some normalcy on this blog, which means Work It Wednesday.

I have been working on my sewing space, also known as my “Woman Cave”.  Here are a couple of pictures of what I have done so far.

I picked these up at Ikea in the kitchen department. They are supposed to be for hanging coffee cups, but they work great for large spools of thread (quilting and serger) and they fit my ribbons perfectly!
My sewing room has 4 windows. One large one that will be getting blinds installed this week, and 3 small ones that are 2×2 feet each.  I didn’t want to cover those because I love the natural light and with where they are located, someone would be hard pressed to look in.

Sorry for the not so great picture, but the lighting isn’t so good today…This is where my hubby did a little decorating. He put some of my favorite pictures of the two of us on the window ledge and also one of my niece and one of my nephew, each wearing something I made. Isn’t my husband wonderful?!?

My favorite piece in my sewing room looks a little bit like a disaster, but give me some time, a pattern for fabric boxes and a few mason jars and it will looks stunning soon, I promise!

My fabric cabinet – currently covered to hide the MESS inside
Here it is in all it’s red messy glory!

We also got this at Ikea. I don’t know why but I fell in love with this red cabinet. The color makes me so happy and I just went with the cheerful feelings it brought to my heart. I figure those were the kinds of vibes I wanted in my creative space.

I still have so much more I want to do in this room, but I figured you could get a peek at my progress.

What do you think?

100 posts…10 ways this blog has changed me

Change is a good thing

This blog has meant different things to both Sunni and I. Here are ten ways this blog has changed me and my life for the better:

  1. I am more creative and adventurous
  2. Instead of just following patterns – I make my own
  3. I have become a “designer”
  4. I have taken risks
  5. I have worked with new materials
  6. I have worked with new (to me) concepts
  7. I have crossed three additional items off my craft bucked list
    1. Sew at least one outfit for Anne
    2. Publish one of my knitting patterns
    3. Take more chances
  8. I have more faith in myself and my abilities
  9. I am interacting with more people every day (through blogs) and I am putting myself out there to the world for both positive and negative critiques

And number 10:

I am happier – this has a lot to do with sewing and creating every day. I forgot what it felt like to have “me time” – this blog has given me the ability to have that time and it has done so much for my mom psyche. I think as a mom and wife I am a lot more fun now and I am certainly more pleasant to be around.

A happy Mama is a good Mama 🙂

How has blogging and/or reading blogs changed your life?

The Quilter Makes a Dress

I don’t make clothes. I haven’t made any since I was 15 and made a pair of pajama pants. I used a directional fabric and cut everything upside down. Oops! This incident put me off clothes sewing for the second half of my life.  Things have changed…I’m turning 30 in 2 months and I have a beautiful baby girl to sew for now, it is time I try new things.

Anne is a natural beauty and I needed a very simple dress for my serious lack of seamstress skills. I found a pattern posted on Craft Gossip from Bramcost Publications. It was perfect for my skill set. I found this great patched plaid fabric at JoAnns.

Here are a few more gratuitously cute pictures:

I still need to put in a hem, but in the mean time I am just so tickled pink with how it turned out!

Tips & Tricks – Knitting Supplies

I don't need to tell you that I knit a lot. I have been knitting now for almost 8 years, which in the eyes of some may seem like no time at all, but for me it is almost a third of my life.  In those 8 years I have come to appreciate different knitting tools and I thought I would share a few of my favorites with you.

Keep in mind that these are not only my favorites but they are also necessary for most projects.

See what each of these is used for after the jump!
