Vintage Christmas Quilt Mini Reveal

Vintage Christmas Sampler - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.comThe last week we have had rain so sadly I couldn’t get a picture of the quilt laying out in all its glory, but it is all finished!

I decided to use my backing for the binding technique, I love the pop of gold all the way around on the border.

Backing - Vintage Christmas Sampler - https://test.sewbittersweetdesigns.comHopefully after my hubby returns in a couple weeks from doing Army things I will be able to get a full length photo and capture the quilt in all its glory!

Today is the last day to enter the September Finishes Party and start thinking about your goal for October as that party will open tomorrow!

September Mid Month Party – A Lovely Year of Finishes

Welcome to the middle of September! I don’t know how it is going for everyone else but I have been super productive. To be honest I think that is because I’ve been trying to keep myself from breaking down over the fact that my little one started preschool last week. Sewing is the best therapy!

I finally settled on this lovely little meandering loop the loops for the blocks on my Vintage Christmas Sampler. They reminded me of twinkle lights.

For the borders I did some free motion holly leaves and berries.

There are a few imperfections in my holly leaves but overall I am really pleased with them!

Your turn! Show us what you have been up to the first half of the month! I hope your goals are coming along beautifully! You can link up here or with Shanna, no need to link up twice.

September Goal Party – A Lovely Year of Finishes

Welcome to September, the start of school (at least in Washington), the start of autumn (definitely in Washington), and for me…the start of my Christmas sewing! I probably should have started months ago, but I’ve had A LOT going on. My goal for September is to quilt my Vintage Christmas Sampler – if I am feeling scrappy I might even bind it, but my actual goal is to simply get it quilted.  All of the tutorials for these blocks are available on my blog, just follow the link above and remember, they were all written for a scant 1/4″ seam!

This quilt could easily be made modern with some different fabric choices, but I went with what I had in my stash at the time. I cannot wait to snuggle underneath this at Christmas!

Your turn!

What one item will you choose to do for September?

You have two requirements to be entered into the prizes this month.

1. Link-up {on this post} the first 7-days of the month

and

2. Link-up in the last 7-days of the month.

Add your blog post or flickr photo (with appropriate descriptions) to the linky party below.

Please grab a button or link back to Shanna and I so other people can join in the fun!

**Please note, the linky party is the same here and over at Shanna, so there is no need to enter twice **

For those unsure of how to link up go check out our Q&A Page for A Lovely Year of Finishes – there are instructions on how to link up from a blog and from Flickr.

Grab a button from my sidebar and spread the LOVE!

FaveQuilts Top 100 in 2012

Last night I got an email from Jessica over at FaveQuilts informing me that one of my tutorials made the 100 Best Quit Patterns for Free list. I can’t even tell you how awesome this made me feel!

The pattern that was featured is actually one of my favorites as it is from my Vintage Christmas Sampler that I started a year and a half ago. It is on the MUST FINISH list for 2013 – I fully plan on snuggling under it this year while staring at my Christmas tree lights!

Edit: My wonderful friend Debbe from Pieces to Love, just informed me that my Dresden Tumbler Quilt is also on the list! How cool is that?!? 2 projects featured!

Make sure you head over to the FaveQuilts site and check out the rest of the Top 100 from 2012 – there are some seriously awesome projects featured!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

I finished piecing the quilt top! Now the big question is do I put borders on it?  It is already almost 60″ x 79″ so I don’t need the size – it is HUGE for a cuddle quilt.  What do you all think?

Vintage Christmas Quilt TopAnd in case you were wondering what made me decide to switch my layout in the first place. I was playing around with Ole Frog Eyes and wanted to test out their On Point quilt. Check out my mock up here. I have to say how much I love this tool because it really gives me a chance to see my quilt before I go through the process of laying it all out on my floor.  (This is not a sponsored post, just telling you about a product I love is all.)
