Vintage Christmas Sampler – Wreath Block

The Wreath Block…this has been the most requested tutorial since I started my Vintage Christmas Sampler…and it is the one block I have been avoiding like the plague. I first found this block at Popular Patch Work – it is a gorgeous block and I immediately fell in love with it. The only problem I had was that it was designed as a 6 inch block and I needed a 12 inch block for my quilt. Needless to say…some fancy quilt math ensued.

Let me also start out with an apology…I did not take very many pictures while making this block – I was so focused on seeing whether I had done the math and the cutting right. (side note: this is also the first time I ever did quarter square triangles…) If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask – I will be more than happy to re-do the block and take more pictures if need be!

Sponsor Highlight & Giveaway – Fat Quarter Shop

How much do you love the Fat Quarter Shop?

FatQuarterShop-165Fat Quarter Shop is one of the biggest online fabric stores and their service is unparalleled.  If you get your order placed by 3:00pm central time your order will ship the same day! That is really convenient if you are like me and always forget to order enough yardage and don’t realize it until you go to bind a project.  The entire team is incredibly helpful and they will go out of their way to answer questions and help you find what you are looking for.

I am the type of quilter who loves notions and quilting tools.  Did you know Fat Quarter Shop has a fabulous selection of quilting notions? They have rulers, thread, templates, and even software that you can purchase.

My most recent favorite find is the Easy Star and Geese Ruler which Fat Quarter Shop added to their inventory in September.  I like this ruler because it is versatile – I have used it to create multiple original flying geese blocks as well as an original quilt design – Flying Flocks.

Now you combine Fat Quarter Shop’s notions with their incredible selection of fabrics…and what can I say, I’m broke!  Here are a couple of my favorite recent releases that Fat Quarter Shop is carrying:

It is hard not to find something to love at Fat Quarter Shop.  Fat Quarter Shop recently sent me some fabric to play with and they are generously giving the same fabric to one of my readers…but that isn’t all! They are also giving away an Easy Star and Geese Ruler!

So one lucky winner will win…a Jelly Roll of Flora AND an Easy Star and Geese Ruler!

Happy Veteran’s Day

Today is Veteran’s Day. It is a day to reflect and show gratitude for the men and women who have written a blank check to the United States of America. They sacrifice everything to ensure our freedoms.  On this day please take a moment and thank a Veteran in your life. I will be thanking the Veteran’s in my life today: my bestie, her hubby, my God Father, and my hubby. (There are countless more in my life, I am blessed knowing all of these selfless people.)

I thank this veteran every day of my life.

Happy Veteran’s Day!

Taking a little break

Hi everyone! I am taking the rest of this week off from blogging, but I will be back on Monday. I know I promised that all of the Vintage Christmas Sampler tutorials would be up before the end of this month and they will, just none this week, sorry.

The rest of this week is a little hectic for me. My sweet baby girl is turning 2 on Saturday – which I am in complete denial over!

Isn’t she precious!

Friday we are doing her 2 year pictures (we only have pictures taken once per year for her birthday) and we are also doing our family holiday pictures.  I also have to pack her and I up because we are heading back to CA for 2 weeks for a visit with my parents. Which means I have to pack everything but the kitchen sink, and I mean everything.  Here is a quick list at just a few of the items I have to pack:

  • Pack & play (plus sheets)
  • Stroller
  • Dishes and cups for Anne
  • Toys
  • Baby Dolls
  • DVD player for car
  • Clothes for her, myself and the hubs (he is meeting us down there at the tail end of our visit)
  • Sewing projects (want to get 2 quilts basted while I am there)
  • And I am sure there are a thousand other things that should be on this list and aren’t! If you think of a MUST have please tell me, I really don’t want to have to go shopping when I get there…

Needless to say the rest of this week I am going to be rather tied up. Come back on Monday for an awesome giveaway and on Tuesday I will have the Wreath Tutorial for you!

I hope you have a great week, and please on Friday take a moment and thank a Veteran. I know I will be thanking the special one in my life that day.

Guest Posting at Purple Panda Quilts Today

Hi Everyone! Today I am guest posting at Purple Panda Quilts. When Lyanna announced on our quilting bee page that she would be making Christmas Stockings for Foster Children and asked if we would like to help her I jumped at the chance. As I have said before, giving back is something that I feel is very important and when I can I do!

Stockings for Kids

I immediately signed up and a couple of days later she asked if I would like to write a tutorial for her blog on how to make a stocking. I have never made one before but I thought I might be able to come up with something a little different…or at least I hoped that I could.

Here’s what I came up with:

It is a reversible stocking with pockets on the inside and out. Plus it is made out of flannel so it is super cuddly too!

Do you want to learn how to make it? Hop on over to Lyanna’s blog and get the tutorial and while you are there sign up to make a stocking!
