Playing Around

I spent yesterday during nap time playing around with a new tool I got from Fat Quarter Shop and something new and fun was born.  Here is a scrappy peak of what I made:

I have decided to hand quilt the project – it will be my first attempt at hand quilting – I will start tonight during Project Runway (guilty pleasure).  Jenna from SewHappyGeek was kind enough to help me on Twitter yesterday, she sent me a couple of tutorials and also told me what supplies I was going to need.

I picked up some perle cotton number 8 in a beautiful red, some needles and a frame. I figured I needed to try hand quilting with and without a frame of some sort to see what worked for me so I picked up a cheapy little plastic frame. We shall see!

While Anne and I were out shopping I decided to pick up some more art projects for her – so we decided to make Valentine’s for our family and friends. I am sure her Grandparents will love them when we send them off at the beginning of next month – what do you think of them?

Today is my Friday, my hubs has Friday and Monday off and I want to spend some quality time with him and Anne – so I will be back on Tuesday!  I hope you all have a great weekend, take a moment and reflect on the holiday we celebrate – Martin Luther King Jr.

How will you be spending the weekend? Is it a long one for you too?

UPDATE! I just remembered I will be here on Monday…I have a very special fun giveaway for you! Make sure you come by and check it out!

Sponsor Highlight & Giveaway – Fat Quarter Shop

How much do you love the Fat Quarter Shop?

FatQuarterShop-165Fat Quarter Shop is one of the biggest online fabric stores and their service is unparalleled.  If you get your order placed by 3:00pm central time your order will ship the same day! That is really convenient if you are like me and always forget to order enough yardage and don’t realize it until you go to bind a project.  The entire team is incredibly helpful and they will go out of their way to answer questions and help you find what you are looking for.

I am the type of quilter who loves notions and quilting tools.  Did you know Fat Quarter Shop has a fabulous selection of quilting notions? They have rulers, thread, templates, and even software that you can purchase.

My most recent favorite find is the Easy Star and Geese Ruler which Fat Quarter Shop added to their inventory in September.  I like this ruler because it is versatile – I have used it to create multiple original flying geese blocks as well as an original quilt design – Flying Flocks.

Now you combine Fat Quarter Shop’s notions with their incredible selection of fabrics…and what can I say, I’m broke!  Here are a couple of my favorite recent releases that Fat Quarter Shop is carrying:

It is hard not to find something to love at Fat Quarter Shop.  Fat Quarter Shop recently sent me some fabric to play with and they are generously giving the same fabric to one of my readers…but that isn’t all! They are also giving away an Easy Star and Geese Ruler!

So one lucky winner will win…a Jelly Roll of Flora AND an Easy Star and Geese Ruler!

This Giveaway is NOW Closed

Do you want to win? Here’s is the nitty gritty (please be a follower of my blog – I want to know that these wonderful prizes are going to people who read my blog!):

1. Head over to Fat Quarter Shop and check out their notions section – tell me the one notion you would love to test drive.

2. Sign up for the Fat Quarter Shop Newsletter.

Bonus Entry: Spread the word – blog, tweet or facebook about this giveaway for an extra entry – please include a link in your comment.

That’s 3 possible entries! This giveaway will be open from November 14th through November 20th. I will announce the winner on November 21, 2011. One lucky winner will have one more thing to be grateful for at Thanksgiving!

I will be posting some inspirational projects later in the week that I have made using the Easy Star and Geese Ruler, as well as a project using Flora!

Sponsor Love – Fat Quarter Shop

Do you love Fat Quarter Shop?  I do!  They have sew much to offer and the best part is that you can get in one stop, in one shipment and you get that shipment FAST!

Have you seen their new collection of downloadable patterns and quilt kits “It’s Sew Emma“?  I love quilting kits – all the work is done for you except the sewing! These are perfect for me, when I’m running low on time and want to be able to make a quilt for someone special and I am ALWAYS running low on time!

This quilt would be PERFECT for my friend Lisa’s son – he is having a Dr. Seuss birthday party in November.  Don’t you think it would be great for a 3 year old?

This quilt would be perfect for either of my two nieces.  They love pink and I think it is just grown up enough that in 2 or 3 years they will still really love it!  What I really love about these patterns is that you can purchase just the pattern, which provides you with the fabric requirements so you can completely personalize it OR you can can purchase the entire quilt kit.  I love that I can purchase the entire kit because it makes my life easier when I am in a pinch.

You may have noticed that I am also hugely into Christmas lately – what with my Christmas quilt blocks and the Christmas Block Swap that I co-host with Sunni from Love Affair With My Brother on Flickr. Fat Quarter Shop’sChristmas Cloth Shop” is a one stop shopping experience for all thing Christmas fabric related!  They have the newest lines and offer both modern and traditionally inspired choices.

They have EVERY Christmas collection you can think of, here are a few of my personal favorites:

(I know – two Seuss items in one post – I can’t help myself, I love Max and Cindy Lou Who)

What is your favorite line that the Fat Quarter Shop offers?  It’s ok, if you can’t pick just one – I clearly can’t either 🙂
